Advantages: Does the trick
Disadvantages: A bit pricy
For me, Summer is bittersweet. On the one hand, I love the sun and it relaxes me. I love nothing more than lying down in the sun, daydreaming, innocent smile on my face, not a care in the world. On the other hand, my relaxed status is completely shattered by the regular convulsions and incessant itchy eyes as my hayfever kicks in.
It's a real pain, I can tell you. Luckily, I suppose it only makes me sneeze and gives my eyes a bit of an itch. I know it can be a whole lot worse for others, and naturally, milder for some, too. However, one thing that I usually use when it gets too bad is Clarityn. I try not to, as I know that your system can become too accustomed to things like this, and thus they cease to help as your body becomes immune to its effects.
Clarityn is a brand name for allergy tablets. I have used them for about 10 years now. They are, essentially, Loratadine tablets, and if you want to get a different brand, you could possibly get an 'own' brand with this in it that may do the job just as well. I couldn't comment. I don't know.
What it is, is a non-drowsy allergy tablet, which does the job of a antihistamine without any drowsy effects. It can relieve most allergy symptoms, according to the packaging, and not just hayfever, although my experience has only been to use it for hayfever. I usually buy it in a packet that contains a sheet of 7 tablets, but these do come at a bit of a price, coming in at well over £2 for the packet. However, in the Summer, you can often find them on offer, and I usually manage to get them on a buy one get one free deal, thereby severely reducing the price.
I highly rate these. I do try not taking them, but when it starts getting bad, I take one and within an hour I'm better. They boast having fast and effective action, and this, for me, is true. I find they tens to last for a whole day, and so the 7 per sheet, lasting a week, is right, and it's a well judged product. I can't compare it to other products, as I haven't used them, but then I've never needed to as this works just fine for me.
Summary: Anti-allergy tablet that does the trick for my hayfever

- 14/07/09 I use these, prob about only about 2-3 packs a year when it kicks in really badly, and found Clarityn to work best for me. Seem to be getting over the hayfever now though :o) |

- 07/07/09 I've never tried these on the basis that when I lived in London I used Benadryl. Ironically enough by the time I got back to Scotland, I never needed these kinds of tablets again for hayfever relief. |

- 29/06/09 Loratidine is available through own brand - at more than half the price you pay for this kind of branded item - an it is EXACTLY the same product - trust my pharmacy training :-) |
