Clary Sage essential oil is steam distilled from the salvia scelera plant. The family this plant belongs to is Lamaeaceae (important when purchasing oil). The flowers from the tops of this plant are used to extract the oil and the main commercial producer is Morocco. Clary Sage is the best de-stressing oil I have come across. It has a deep nutty wood-ish aroma – not my favourite smell but by no means unpleasant. A couple of drops in an evening bath are the ideal way to ease away the pressures of the day. Personally, I prefer to blend it with a couple of drops of Frankincense or Sandalwood.
