Advantages: Good pain relief

Disadvantages: Tastes horrible

I purchased a 10ml bottle of Clove Oil from Holland and Barrett for £2.99 a few months ago when I had toothache, I have used it previously and found that it helped so sought out some more.

It is claimed that Clove Oil has antimicrobial, antifungal, antiseptic, antiviral, aphrodisiac and stimulating properties. The oil can be used for treating a variety of health disorders including toothaches, indigestion, cough, headache, stress and blood impurities.

Clove itself is an evergreen tree with little flower buds on, these are used to extract the clove oil, sometimes it is referred to as Clove Bud Oil. Clove Oil contains calcium, hydrochloric acid, iron, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, and vitamin A and vitamin C. I have never used Clove Oil for anything other than for tooth problems, so I will assess the oil based on my experiences.

I apply the Clove Oil by dipping a clean cotton bud into the small bottle and then pressing the cotton bud onto the tooth that is aching, I would recommend holding it onto your tooth for a good few minutes, the Clove Oil eventually numbs the pain and makes you start to feel better as it trickles into the tiny gaps in the tooth. I apply Clove Oil again once the pain comes back, which varies depending on the severity of the pain, but it lasts around 2-3 hours. I do not like the taste of the Clove Oil, as it is very strong, but its effective so that is a little problem I just put up with. I would also recommend caution in the amount you apply in anyone application as it can burn your mouth, though I have not experienced this.

Clove Oil is also used in cosmetics as it is a good reliever of pain and stress, it is also used in soaps due to its soothing, distinctive and antiseptic properties and is it also added to some perfumes. Clove Oil is not recommend for children under 5 years of age, but it can be (and I did use it) during pregnancy as it is a natural product.

Overall I would recommend using Clove Oil for toothache, it's a great little natural product that helps to ease pain while you wait for your dentist appointment. It is also well priced and easy enough to carry around with you to treat your pain on the go.

Summary: Good natural product that helps releave toothache
