Advantages: works...

Disadvantages: but not completely

I have been getting really bad headaches pretty much every day for a few weeks, and have been going through different ways to get rid of them. I've tried 4head, I've tried Ibuprofen, and today I went to the pharmacy and asked for the strongest pain-killers they could do without a prescription.

The rather dubious question they asked me was 'drowsy or non-drowsy'. I was like "erm, non drowsy!" but then found that only offered paracetomal and ibuprofen, so I went for drowsy and they gave me co-codamol.

So, I bought 32 tablets for 96p and gave them a whirl. These particular ones are 8mg codeine phosphate and 500mg paracetomal, which seems pretty small but what the heck.

So, the first thing to cover is that they can make you drowsy. I took them at the end of the day, and felt tired anyway, but I do feel they've made me drowsy.

The main thing is did they get rid of the head-ache. The answer is that they dulled it, but it's still there. This is a shame, but a possible sign that these could be the start of the answer. The reason I say that is because I can take Ibuprofen with them, so 2 of each will be the next thing I try.

The only other thing I would say is don't go for the expensive brands (at around £3) as they turn out to only have caffeine as the extra ingredient. I just had a coffee for the same effect.

The pills I have are the chalky ones, but I guess you can get them in the smoother caplets too.

All in all, a moderately effective pain-killer than can lead to drowsiness unlike paracetomal and ibuprofen.

Summary: worth a go
