Advantages: Fast Acting

Disadvantages: None

I am unlucky enough to suffer from headaches quite often which sometimes progress into migraines, thankfully the migraines are quite rare. I have all sorts of different tablets in the house, paracetamol, ibruprofen, migraleve and recently came across Co-codamol whilst shopping online. I've heard that these are generally quite good so decided to purchase a pack and add them to my collection. I think I tempted fate as last weekend I spent the whole of saturday in bed with a bad head which wasnt helped by the nauseas feeling.

I did have my new addition of tablets in by then so I dragged myself downstairs to take a couple. I had taken them around 2pm and also taken myself back to bed to wait and see if they would do the trick. By 7pm my headache was nearly gone but unfortunately the co-codamol does not cure the queasy feeling then accompanies the headache.

Now this isn't the only time that the co-codamol has eased my suffering, a couple of days ago I had to work from the main office so had to leave the comfort of my office at home and drive the 30 minutes to work (not a long journey I know). My dilemma was that during the next I had been awaken by pain in my knees (yes I am clearly falling to bits). When I got up in the morning at 6am I went straight for the drugs and hoped they would work pretty quickly. Driving with aching knees can be really uncomfortable and the only other thing I find helps is heat. By the time I got to work the pain had eased so it wasnt affecting me too much and by the time 9.30 came round the pain has gone.

Co-codamol are a white round tablet containing 500mg of paracetamol and 8.0mg of codeine phosphate (the key ingredients in my opinion). They help relieve mild to moderate headaches (yes they do), migraine, toothache, period pains, muscle pains and backache) They can also help relieve symptons of rheumatic pains and colds.

The recommended dose for an adult or children over the age over 12 is one to two tablets and no more than 8 in a 24 hour period. They are not recommended for children under the age of 12 unless perscribed by a doctor. If the pain persists for more than 3 days then a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted.

Co-codamol should not be taken with any other products containing paracetamol. The box I have contains two warnings on the back. 1. Taking codeine regularly for a long time can lead to addiction. 2. Taking a painkiller for headaches too often or for too long can make them worse.

I dont always take tablets when I have a headache, if they are mild they usually go by themselves. If I have a prolonged headache I tend to take paracetamol or ibruprofen first and if that doesnt work then I hit the hard stuff. Co-codamol so far has worked well for me and I am grateful for that. Its not nice to be in pain and a fast acting painkiller is always a real bonus.

I bought my co-codamol online at www.chemistdirect.co.uk. They only cost me 49p and they came in a pack of 32. I will definitely order these again when I run out as they work wonders.

Summary: Recommended for pesky pains

I am surprised that any one can buy drugs with codeine in, over the counter. I thought codeine is a prescription compound.

A useful analgesic but not without some unpleasant side effects. Well reviewed.
