Covonia Cough Lozenges
Advantages: Strong and work
Disadvantages: Horrible taste
Covonia is now my go to cough and cold medicine. I think it tastes absolutely vile but it seems to do the trick. I only discovered the cough lozenges last time I had the cold as previously I thought they just did the liquid medicine. I bought a pack not really sure what I was expecting as a lot of medicine brands also do cough lozenges and to be frank most of them are pretty rubbish when it comes to actually doing anything to help. In fact most of them now just taste like sweets and do as much use when it comes to soothing coughs and sore throats.
I do think these are different. For one they are vile so I doubt most people would use them unless they worked. I like Halls soothers but that's mainly just because they taste nice and I can go through a packet in a day just eating them like boiled sweets. These are different because I don't like the taste I only use them when I need to and I personally think they work well.
These cough lozenges have a double action to sooth the throat and clear your airwaves when they are blocked from the cold.
They do this because the ingredients used to make them include menthol and Squill extract. The menthol works to clear your airwaves and the Squill extract is an expectorant which means that it works to break up phlegm making it easier to be coughed up so it doesn't just sit in your chest and throat.
I thought these worked really well and are a cut above the normal cough lozenges. Although I didn't like the taste that is mainly because I don't really like menthol and these have a high concentration of menthol in them. They also have a warming effect which soothes the throat and you can actually feel this as you suck on the lozenge.
I took these when I was in the full throws of a bad cold and I think they helped. They didn't just sooth my throat like a lot of lozenges but they helped clear my nose a little bit and y coughing was definitely noticeably improved and not as severe. I wouldn't say that these actually helped with making me better but they definitely helped with relieving the symptoms even if it was just for short periods of time.
Although I wouldn't use these for a soothing effect if I just had a tickly throat and chest I would definitely buy them again for those times when I have a really bad cold and need something to help me get through it at least until it is time for my next dose of medicine. They are fairly expensive at £1.35 a packet but I think they are well worth this price.
Summary: Horrible tasting cough lozenges but they actually work
