After my darling twins passed on their drasted colds to me the other week I stocked up on all things nice and nasty to help rid me of the snuffles and splutters, or at least make feel slightly better. One of the nasties I'd purchased were Covonia Chest Cough Mixture - Mentholated.

Covonia comes in a tall, slim brown glass bottle with a white screw off plastic cap. The sticker on the front is a pale orange in colour with the red and white Covonia banner stamped at the top. It clearly says it's Chest Cough Mixture Mentholated. It also says on the bottle;
Levomenthol
Squill Tincture
Liqourice Liquid Extract

This medicine claims it provides effective relief from troublesome chesty coughs as well as being a non drowsy medicine. It's not recommended for childen under 5, and the back of the bottle provides clear instructions on dose amounts all depending on age.

I find the taste, smell and look of this medicine absolutely horrid - but it doesn't help that I detest liquorice however I find it does work for me. It's a thick, shiny, dark brown and extremely unappealing medicine with the strongest liquorice smell. Disgusting in my opinion. The intensity doesn't stop with the smell though and the thick, powerful liquorice flavour trickles down your throat, almost making me want to heave but thanks to it's magic as it flows down my throat I can ignore the horrid taste as I can feel a sudden soothing sensation of my throat, the annoying tickle stops and I don't feel the need to bark, cough or splutter. Thanks to the menthol aspect of the medicine it does seem to create a sort of breath of fresh air for my air ways too, so if I do have a blocked nose this medicine seems to clear it and allow for easy breathing for a minute or two. It definitely provides relief for me so I can put up with the rancid taste.

Summary: This medicine tastes horrible but it definitely does the trick!
