Advantages: works to relax muscles, inexpensive, smells nice to me

Disadvantages: some people allergic, cannot be used on inflamed areas, some people hate the smell

I know I seem to have a bit of a thing about pain relieving creams and gels today but here goes anyway! Deep Heat is a firm favourite in my bathroom cabinet. I previously mentioned inflammation in my back and unfortunately Deep Heat is not suitable for inflamed areas so I tend to use this on my shoulders and neck if I sit at the computer too long. It's designed really for muscle stiffness, if you have inflammation do not use Deep Heat on the area.

The active ingredients are as follows: Menthol 5.91%, Eucalyptus oil 1.97%, Methyl salicylate 12.80%, Turpentine oil. 1.47 %. Turpentine oil? Apparently this is a skin irritant so it is likely this that causes most of the heat from Deep Heat and also probably this that causes some people to be allergic to the product as it can cause blisters.

The box is red with a white oval shape that contains the words Deep Heat in red wavy writing and the tube is the same as the box.

The cream is a thick cream and it smells really strong, in fact I used to apply Deep Heat before going to work at one point and had to announce I was wearing it as I walked in before I got the "what's that smell?" comments! It smells of menthol, very strongly. My partner hates the smell and finds it makes his eyes water but I like it so it's definitely a marmite smell!

Deep Heat for stiff muscles does however work very well. You can apply it 2-3 times a day and the heat starts a few minutes after application and lasts for a good hour or more so it does encourage the muscles to relax. But again,do not use on inflamed areas, they are already hot.

I thoroughly recommend this for stiff muscles, very warming and relaxing and at £4.50 for a 100g tube it doesn't cost much either.

Summary: Highly recommended for stiff muscles
