Advantages: The heat tells you it is working
Disadvantages: Takes longer than painkillers to work
Aching joints seem to be a recurrent problem as the age clock ticks on. I have heard tell it is nature's way of preparing you for rigor mortis- what a comforting thought.
When I am busy I can tolerate the aching- there is plenty to take my mind of it- but at night it drives me nuts- I cannot settle and it is very frustrating.
I had tried painkillers, but I am not keen on becoming reliant on them. So I went off to Boots and invested just over £2 for a 35g tube of Deep Heat.
Deep Heat is a methyl salicylate and menthol cream rub designed to alleviate muscular aches and pains.
As with any medication rub you should test on a small area first. Then if all is ok, massage a thin layer of the cream into the affected area- keep massaging in, until all the cream is absorbed. It will feel hot, hence the name!
You should not be using it more than a maximum of three times a day and should only use it on non sensitive areas- never put near your mouth or eyes, and always wash your hands after application. It should never be used on broken or inflamed skin.
The recommended uses are for:-
Backache
Lumbago
Sciatica
Fibrositis
Rheumatic Pain
Bruises
Sprains
It is not suitable for young children or without medical approval if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
It seems to take a while to work, so I have to remember to apply about half an hour before bed- or if I forget- I just have to take my mind off the aching with a cuppa and a good book, until it gets to work.
It doesn't work as well as painkillers in my opinion, but as I said earlier I do not wish to become reliant on pain killing medication so this is a great substitute.
Summary: For the nights I would fail an MOT

- 25/10/09 A good opinion of this soothing Heat Rub. But make sure you wash your hands after because during the night your hands may wander during your sleep, and the sensitive parts of your body may burn. "Ouch!" |

- 22/10/09 If you think one person with this on smells, try standing at the start of the London Marathon - the smell's magnified by hundreds! ;o) |

- 21/10/09 Disadvantages: You can smell it a mile off!:o} |
