Deep Heat Fast Relief Rub
Description: For muscular aches and pains.
If you have never used this stuff, it is a tube of cream which is recgnisable by the bright red packaging and the words Deep Heat in large letters on the front. Before using, make sure that the seal is not broken. A 35g tube costs less than £3.
It is basically a cream which is designed to be applied topically (be careful where you apply it, read the instructions and avoid sensitive areas. Also avoid if you have any kind of sensitivity to the ingredients) to help alleviate muscular aches and pains. Be very careful to wash your hands properly after applying too, to prevent accidentally touching your eyes etc.
There is quite a strong smell from this product which people seem to either love or hate. It is worth being aware of though, just in case you have something planned! Begin by applying just a little of this cream because using too much can cause a burning sensation instead of just warming. It is common for your skin to go red, so don't panic if this happens! It is not supposed to stain, but I would recommend caution and don't wear anything that could ruin - likewise, maybe don't get into pure white sheets, just in case. Be sure to rub this cream in properly as it takes a little while to absorb. A word of warning, do NOT get into a bath or shower immediately after applying as it heats up a lot and can burn and sting.
I do find that this cream is quite effective, the heat helps to reduce aches and pains and can be quite soothing. I do find that the smell (and the fact that it might stain) a little offputting though, it isn't something that you could apply in the office for example.
I suffer from pain in my shoulder following a car accident some years ago so find myself using this cream from time to time. I do prefer ibuprofen gel though as I find that it is just as effective (maybe even a little more) without the unpleasant odour. I also find that being a gel, it is easier to apply and is absorbed faster.
Active ingredients are Menthol (58.8mg/g) and Methyl Salicylate (127.4mg/g).
I would recommend this but if you are looking for something that doesn't smell and is easy to absorb, would also suggest that you try ibuprofen gel (if you are able to - again, read the instructions before use) which you might find more convenient.
Please note - any unexplained pain should always be checked by a medical professional.
Summary: Worth a try
