My sore throat has continued and unfortunately decided to turn into a nasty chest infection so I am now taking some antibiotics having visited the doctors this morning. Previous to it turning into this infection I had just popped on to my local Lloyds pharmacy; as I had run out of strepsils so needed something a little more powerful to ease the discomfort of my sore throat. I asked for a box of Dequacaine lozenges and the young girl behind the counter proceeded to scan a box of Immodium! I explained she had got the wrong item and after her picking up 4 other very different items she eventually picked the right one (I was practically screaming and pointing at the box like ... Sore throats are, for me, one of the worst of the common ailments. I hate the dry feeling, the not being able to swallow, and of course the pain. I've been using Dequacaine for a few years now as they're the best treatment I've found. I discovered them when I went into a chemist's during a particularly bad sore throat 'episode' and asked the girl on the counter for the strongest sore throat medicine they had (I must have been ill, since I never even asked the price. People who know me would be amazed at that!). She sold me a 24 capsule packet of Dequacaine lozenges and proceeded to warn me not to drink hot drinks whilst taking them since I could ... After all the gluttony of Christmas and the chocolates that we all scoffed, now comes the harsh weather of January and February, colds, flus, soar throats, coughs, chest infections, what a lovely thought eh. I found this product quite by accident as I had always used strepsils which now I am on my third packet of these for the colds and throats I have had since Christmas and they work every time and seem to settle things down with 2/3 days. After all the rushing around today, I think I have picked up a bug or something. I wish people would not come and visit us when they have throats or colds or anything as all I have to do is be in the same room as some one ... Read the complete review

I have always found Dequacaine lozenges very effective. I used to work in an advertising sales office when I had to talk on the phone all day and a sore throat could mean not being able to do the job. A friend recommended these lozenges and since then I always keep them handy. The benzocaine in these pleasant tasting lozenges acts as a local anaesthetic and the dequaliniun chroride is a strong antiseptic. The effect lasts about two hours but be careful about the number of tablets you use as these aren't sweets, they are a strong medication. Follow the directions on the box. The only problem I found was that they made my mouth and throat a bit numb ... Read the complete review

Dequacaine lozenges are a pharmacy formula lozenge for the relief of moderate to severe sore throats. They contain a antiseptic and anaesthetic and can be used in conjunction with painkillers such as ibruprofen and paracetamol. They contain sugar and sweetners so diabetics must consult with their pharmacist first. Children under twelve should not use these. Unlike some other lozenges these taste quite mild and pleasant. The anaesthetic action is strong and fast acting so it is better to pop them into the side of your mouth and let them dissolve slowly. They do help the pain of a sore throat very well and can help you get through the day. One side effect of ... Read the complete review
