Advantages: Cleans and disinfects
Disadvantages: A little dated now, some do not like smell
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ DETTOL ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One whiff of Dettol and I am magically transported back to my childhood. It has a way of reminding me of school toilets and grazed knees! It is not as popular these days, however is still a handy addition to any cleaning cabinet or first aid box!
For over 70 years, this wonderful liquid antiseptic disinfectant has been gracing our shelves. Long ago it was mainly used for cuts and grazes, however these days I think its main use is cleaning and disinfecting.
The Packaging
~~~~~~~~~
Dettol comes in a 500ml or 750 ml see through plastic bottle. The label on the front is green and white with the word Dettol printed in big blue colour above the symbol of a sword. The label on the back contains all the directions and necessare details about the product. There is a white twist on cap on this product which is a little dated for safety reasons and the packaging can be recycled.
The Contents
~~~~~~~~
The liquid inside the bottle is gold in colour. It is a see through liquid and very watery. It is a concentrated liquid antiseptic disinfectant which has a remarkable smell. It is not so much a nice smell, but more of a clean smell which tickles your nose a little. It is nothing like todays cleanin and disinfecting products as the manufacturers of these have tried to come up with nicer scents. Dettol however, have hardly changed their product for over 70 years!
How To Use
~~~~~~~~
Dettol gives reassuring protection against germs when used correctly. It is gentle and mild enough to be used on skin but powerful enough to be used as a disinfectant in the home.
For Household Use:
For floors and hard surfaces add 7 capfuls to 1 gallon of water
Toilets and non-acrylic sinks use undiluted
Drains and bins use undiluted
Acrylic materials eg baths use 7 caps to 1 gallon of water
Baby products eg highchairs use 1 capful to half pint water
Cleaning linen/napkins use 3 caps to half gallon.
For Medical Use:
For cuts grazes, bites, stings, midwifery use 1 capful to half pint water.
Dettol may also be used well diluted for bathing, dandruff and spots and pimples.
Keep out of reach of children. Do not swallow. Keep out of contact with eyes and consult doctor should any of the above happen.
Conclusion
~~~~~~~
Dettol is still a very popular brand. To be honest I do find the product a little dated, however, I always keep a bottle of it in the house if only for nostalgic purposes! I do love the clean smell which is left after using this product but I must say I have never used it to disinfect any cuts and grazes on my kids.
In my opinion Dettol still makes a good household disinfectant but for cuts grazes and stings etc, there are much better products now available.
Dettol is available from most chemists and supermarkets. It costs £2.23 for 750ml and £1.85 for 500ml.
Summary: A liquid concentrated antiseptic and disinfectant
