Advantages: smell,works!

Disadvantages: none

For as long as I can remember Dettol has been a part of my life. As a child I can remember the strong, reassuring smell and that same smell is still reassuring me today. When I was a child Dettol only came in one form as far as I can remember; a amber coloured liquid. Today Dettol comes in several different variants including a multi action spray, floor wipes and hand wash to name a few. I still buy Dettol in its antiseptic disinfectant liquid form as I think this is the cheapest way!

Dettol antiseptic disinfectant comes in a clear plastic bottle with white screw top lid. It wouldn't win any beauty prizes for its packaging but it does portray the message that this is a serious product! It has many uses both around the home and for medical purposes. The instructions on the back of the bottle advise that you dilute 25 ml of Dettol to 1 litre of water when using it around the home. I use Dettol in this way to wash my kitchen floor. I really like the strong antiseptic smell. When my dog was a puppy we got through litres of Dettol clearing up his mistakes! He is now fully house trained, but I still use Dettol to wash his sleeping crate. Dettol is safe to use and doesn't need to be rinsed.

Dettol can be used on baby equipment. I used to use it to clean my son's high chair when he was little. I also used it to wipe down his changing mat and later to clean his potty. For general use Dettol is effective for cleaning the toilet including the outside of the bowl and seat. It is cheaper than using toilet wipes! Dettol claims to kill the bacteria that are responsible for causing many stomach upsets, flu and colds.

Dettol can also be used for treating minor wounds such as cuts and insect bites. It should first be diluted before being used to gently clean the area. I always include Dettol in my holiday first aid kit, as any open wound can quickly become infected in warm weather. Dettol can also be used to wash hair, helping to cure dandruff. I have never used Dettol on my hair so can't comment on how effective it is! A capful of Dettol can be added to bath water too, although this is not something I would fancy!

Dettol antiseptic disinfectant is widely available. If I remember correctly I paid around £2 for my last 500 ml bottle.Dettol is also available in a 250ml bottle. Overall I would highly recommend Dettol,it is cost effective, works well and has many uses.
