Aloe Pura Aloe Vera Gel - Bio Active
by worst_trip
I buy whatever brand of Aloe vera gel is being sold by the health-food shop I happen to visit first around the time our household runs out of the product. A number of similar brands of Aloe vera gel are sold, similarly packaged in wide-capped, 'store upside down', screw-top tubes, mostly retailing for about £5 for 200ml in different ... shops, and I find that Bioactive Aloe Vera occasionally crops up in small one-off / independent health and whole-food retailers.
These colourless / practically odourless gels are generally promoted as skin conditioning / soothing treatments - of particular use for soothing sunburn, or for helping reduce stretch-marks during pregnancy, etc.. They are made from the squishy inside leaf contents of the succulent Aloe vera plant, which happens - by one of those fortuitous quirks of nature - to contain various substances that are beneficial for soothing human skin. Almost all the gels on the UK market - and Bioactive Aloe vera gel is no exception to this - advertise the fact that they are made from hand-filleted aloe leaves and contain at least 99% pure leaf contents - with, presumably, the other 1% being just a few non-offensive additives put in to preserve the product / prolong its shelf life. The packaged gel is actually slightly nicer to use than the gel you squeeze out of actual Aloe leaves (we have a pot plant of this type at home, the leaf contents of which can be used exactly like Aloe in tube gel can be) - being of a uniform consistency, it's easy to apply. Aloe gel, fresh and packaged, is practically odour-free, transparent, and goes onto the skin without feeling sticky or leaving any greasy residue.
One instance where Aloe vera gel from a tube was invaluable to me was during my first pregnancy, when I experienced a bout of that embarrassing condition that mainly afflicts (sorry) fat folk known as 'intimate chafing'. (I mean the complaint they currently advertise a soothing powder to treat, the TV promotion for which features a drawing of a plump person - basically - waddling along, accompanied to the sound of squeaking balloons being stretched together.) Yes, a combination of an extremely hot and humid summer day, my having chosen to wear a thick and scratchy, long viscose skirt, and a brisk walk in the country all combined to leave the tops of my thighs in a horrible state - the skin wasn't actually broken, but large areas on both legs were irritated and weeping and so painful - chafing together from the (sorry again) sweat - that literally, I could barely walk. I found a tube of my other half's Aloe vera gel in the bathroom (he uses it instead of shaving cream - a bit expensive, but much better for his skin, apparently) and put some on the 'affected areas' then spent the rest of the morning having a rest - after which, miracle cure or what, the gel made the pain / irritation subside enough for me to (gingerly) carry on as normal.
This stuff can, on occasion, produce amazing results. Read the complete review |

If you have never tried this stuff, then get ready to fall in love with a truly wondrous product. Aloe Vera is renowned for its skin healing properties. I use it in many facial products but I never knew that one could buy it as a gel until last year, when I chanced upon this in the bathroom cupboard! The gel can be bought in tubes and ... retails for around five pounds. That might seem dear, but the tube lasts for ages because the stuff is so rich and you only need a small amount for each application.
So who might want to use this product. People with crusty skin, people with wrinkles, people with sore skin or those of us who have scars and blemishes. You could also use it as a special treat even if you have no ailments at all. I have scars and I have used Bio Oil before, to great effect. I tried some of this on the scars I have and the gel really felt wonderful. It has a beige to light colour and comes out at great speed! A blob the size of a two pence piece will do for an area and you only need a few rubs to get the gel into the skin.
The smell is almost neutral, with a faint herbal aroma that is just delicate enough to stimulate the senses. Once on the skin, the skin becomes instantly softer and almost shiny. It does not glisten but more has a lovely matte like gleam to it. The levels of softness are superb and you will want to keep stroking. The gel did not shift the scars but they did soothe them and sometimes they itch and this really did the trick. Definitely on a par with Bio Oil, this is a pleasure to use.
I have also used it on elbows and dry knees and they buff to a glorious look too. Well worth the price tag because it really does soothe and heal. Read the complete review |

Aloe Pura Aloe Vera Gel - Bio Active

As a man I've always been a bit unsure about using cosmetic products, as they can be seen as slightly 'feminine'. My father has barely used cosmetics throughout his life and although he often smells like dried feet, he's ok which is why he often ridicules me on my array of products!
After that short life story I shall explain why I ... realised that sometimes cosmetic products really do help us out. As a guy, shaving is a necessity (the face that is), there's no way I would consider waxing or epilating! I try to shave once every two days to relieve my face of that pubescent shadow that grows back, and whenever I do the area I shave becomes blotchy and dry. I have had three or four shavers and nothing has altered what occurs afterwards, so I decided to pick this up before christmas from Amazon for about £5.
This gel is made with Aloe Vera which contains 19 of the 20 amino acids that occur naturally within the world, and as amino acids are the building block to proteins, and those a major part of our skin you can see why this gel is amazing for your skin. Along with being extremely nutritional for your skin this gel is quickly absorbed into the skin and does not leave a greasy residue. Thanks to this gel my skin is much more touchable after shaving and has severely reduced the blotchiness that occurs also.
Thank you Aloe Pura! Read the complete review |
