Advantages: Very effective, easy to take in chocolate form

Disadvantages: Possible stomach discomfort, less predictable than others

I have to admit I am pretty bad when it comes to making sure I've drunk enough fluids during the day, and as a big fan of meat, from time to time my digestive system gets a little annoyed at me and refuses to work.

At such times, I often can get things working by drinking plenty of water for a day and things get going again, however there are times when more is needed.

On these rare occasions I turn to laxatives. I have tried all sorts of different types and have found that they can be very different.

This Ex-lax comes in the form of bars rather than the more tradtional tablets or liquid forms that most laxatives take. The bars are divided into small squares like chocolate bars (a dose is 2 of the small squares). They are in fact also chocolate favoured and quite chocolately in texture too. My assumption is that this is to counter the often bitter flavour of laxatives. It is very easy to chew and in fact is like a nice fairly dark chocolate.

I do have concerns that if children were to find the bars they would be unlikely to know what they were and could quite easily eat a whole bar, which would be a massive dose and I'm sure bad for them.

As far as it's effectiveness goes, this is a very good laxative that will certainly get things moving and clear you out. As to it's claim of gentle relief...well, in my experience it was anything but gentle!!! I found that this caused my quite bad cramping in my stomach which caused quite a lot of discomfort. Also, the (how can I put this delicately)...evacuation process was rather forceful and violent.

If someone was to ask me if I would recommend ex-lax, I owuld have to say yes it's very effective but be prepared to say very near a toilet after you've taken it and it could well cause you some discomfort!!

The effect of Ex-lax while being very (very very) effective, is not as gentle or predictable as other laxatives I have used. It really is quite essential to be near a toilet after you have taken it. My rating reflects this.
