Advantages: gets rid

Disadvantages: smalls a bit

When the dreaded nits word enters your house there's not a lot you can do except go out and get something to get rid of them.
As my eldest daughter was growing up, she was frequently catching head lice at school. The fact she had long thick hair didn't help much at all. As there were so many products on the market it was difficult to know what to buy, and with all the claims that the head lice were becoming immune to the products as we as a population were using products too much, it was even more confusing.
I went through a phase of treating the head lice daily with a wet conditioned hair and a nit comb. This unfortunately never got rid of all the lice and then of course they are laid again before I could get to them all and the process started again.
In the end I bought the full marks solution as a last resort as I was getting fed up of never being able to fully get rid before she either re caught them or one sneaky little devil was hiding and started the process over again.

Full Marks can be bought in a solution, liquid, mousse or lotion. I bought the solution as it was the only one on my supermarket shelves at the time and it was stating it was only a ten minute process which swayed me too.

To be able to use the solution you have to apply to dry hair and make sure you have all the hair fully covered before washing out with shampoo after the ten minutes and combing all the dead lice out of your hair.
I was tempted by the blurb on the packet of this because it claimed to kill the eggs too which some products don't. There is no point in killing the lice when the eggs can just hatch and breed again.

The product is packaged in a glass bottle and you have a small metal nit comb provided in the box as well. There is nothing special about the packaging but as long as it was going to work I would try anything.

As I applied this to my daughter's hair I used about half the bottle and she has just below the shoulder length thick hair. There was just enough to do my hair too at the time as a precaution which the product doesn't recommend you doing but I wanted to be safe rather than sorry.
I also left on her hair for slightly longer then the ten minute recommendation as when I combed through after ten minutes the lice were still coming out alive which made me feel horrible. I read the packaging again and found out that the idea of the product was to dehydrate the lice and eggs causing them to die. If that was the case I was going to leave it on her head a bit longer.
I read too that the product is safe on children over two years old and also the elderly and adults so I wasn't too worried about giving her any damage by leaving in a bit longer than the recommended time.

The combing through and washing out afterwards was one of the most disgusting bits of the process. I had to make sure I removed all the eggs as well as the lice. As well as using the comb provided I also went through the hair with my fingers and removed any stray eggs with my fingernails. It might sound gross but I wanted to make sure this was going to get rid of them once and for all.

As for my hair I had to be satisfied with combing through and hoping for the best. I would have been mortified if I had gotten nits but as I was itching, probably due to psychological reasons, I had to treat myself too.

I found that the product didn't smell as much as I remember to lotions to smell when I was a child and being treated. There was a smell that lingered for a day or so, but a good wash with shampoo the next morning as well soon cured this.
I was still being paranoid that there would be a stray egg that would hatch so I religiously checked my daughter's hair for a week or so on a daily basis just to make sure that they had all gone.

Full Marks was the only product that actually did work on my daughter's hair and ridded her of the horrible critters once and for all. I have been very impressed with this and I will buy it in the future if I have to on dd2's hair when she gets older.
My bottle cost £3.50 when I needed to buy it, and to be honest I thought it was going to cost more than that so I was impressed. I did only buy a small bottle though.

A lot of recommendations say you should not use these products and should use alternatives such as tea tree oil in shampoo to prevent and use the combing action but there are instances that you just have to buy something to rid your house of nasty nits.

Happy itching!

Summary: a way to get rid of head lice

I was so pleased when my kids moved on to High School, as nits are a lot less then.

When my daughter was little, she got nits, and they developed resistance to all the preparations - in the end, daily combing was the only thing I could do.
