Gaviscon Double Action Tablets
Advantages: helps alleviates symptoms of indigestion, chewable (convenient)
Disadvantages: tend to stick to your teeth
Gaviscon Double Action is a variation on the normal Gaviscon tablets, which are known to aid with heartburn and indigestion. What's so special about this product is that it not only neutralises excess stomach acid quickly, but also forms a 'raft' over your stomach contents to help prevent acid from coming up into the oesophagus.
WHY I BOUGHT THIS
I do get quite serious ingestion that results in very uncomfortable belching and burping. I've been to the doctor's and the first time I was there, one of the medicines that he recommended was Gaviscon, and that was the first time that I tried the Gaviscon tablets - and they kind of helped to relieve partially the symptoms. But unfortunately my stomach got worse, and I actually got a prescription from the doctor for a stronger medicine, which worked for me, but I did not want to continue consuming such a strong medicine since my condition was getting better. So when I was browsing in the supermarket, and I saw Gaviscon Double Action and I read the description that there was a special second function about preventing acid from coming back up - I suddenly remembered that the strong medicine that I was taking a while back had the same thing too! So I decided to give Gaviscon Double Action a try - and I'm glad I did.
PACKAGING AND APPEARANCE
Gaviscon Double Action comes in boxes of either 16 (2.50 pounds at Tesco) or 32 (4 pounds at Tesco). Yo u can easily distinguish them from the normal Gaviscon because of the bright pink colour that indicates Double Action. The tablets come in a foil pouch, each individually packaged. The tablets are half pink and half white, and are about the same size as the normal Gaviscon tablets.
USE AND EFFECTIVENESS OF TABLETS
The recommended dosage is up to four times a day, and to take two - four tablets when symptoms occur after meals or at bed time. These are chewable tablets, so there's no need for water - just chew and let them work their wonders. I typically take two tablets when I feel some slight discomfort after my meals, because these take about 15-20 minutes to take effect for me. I find that it helps to control the belching quite a bit, which is why I always find it quite handy to carry these around.
One thing I don't like about these though is that when you chew on them, they tend to get stuck on your teeth. For me it gets stuck on my molars and it's kind of sticky and not so easy to remove. I usually just leave it there and hopefully with a few gargles or rinses with water it loosens up, but it's kind of uncomfortable in the mean time.
WILL I RECOMMEND IT?
Yes, if you do have some indigestion troubles you might want to try this product and see how it works for you. Of course sometimes the symptoms are more serious, or they may mean more than what you think it is, so if symptoms persist be sure to see your doctor as well!
Summary: I would recommend if you are looking for a medicine to alleviate your indigestion problems.
