The grapefruits (citrus paradisi) has often been associated with a healthy diet and now that they are coming into season I decided to buy some last week. Although they can be purchased throughout the year, the high season ranges from winter through early spring. A ripe grapefruit should be firm and slightly springy when squeezed. A subtle sweet aroma is also present. This large citrus fruit ranges in diameter from four to six inches and is related to the orange and lemon. A grapefruit might be too tangy for some people. If this is the case you can sprinkle sugar on the segments or on a sliced open fruit. There are generally three types of grapefruit: white ... Read the complete review

Years ago a half a grapefruit with a cherry stuck in the middle used to be a very popular `starter` for a meal, much like Black Forest Gateau used to be the pudding of the moment too! I still buy fresh grapefruit, OK they are fussy to prepare and take time to eat but they are packed with Vitamin C and if you eat a half a grapefruit for breakfast it`s a good start to the day. I have got a grapefruit knife, so when I cut my fruit in half the special knife helps me to loosen the segments so that it is much easier to eat, I have to have a sprinkling of sugar on them, much too sharp for me otherwise. But the Ruby grapefruit...that is the one with the very `pinky` ... Read the complete review

grapefruit is grown on citrus trees very similarly to oranges and lemons so there is no surprise that this is a very bitter tasting fruit, it is available in 3 colours white, pink and red, only the inside is a different colour as the outer remains the same, the colours also vary in acidity too so some taste sweeter than others and pink is my favorite as it is not too bitter but just nice enough to be enjoyed, i do cheat a little though and put sugar inside so defeating the object of it being very healthy. Grapefruit although you would think it was good for you being a healthy fruit is not suitable for all people as it has been found to increase the effects of ... Read the complete review

Ironically, I really, really hate grapefruit. The taste of it, the smell of it, everything. It's weird, then, that the essential oil has becomes one of my favourites, one that I use most of all, not least because I love the smell! It doesn't really smell like the fruit. The oil is extracted from the skin and smells very sweet, yet very fresh. It mixes with a huge variety of other oils and is one of the least expensive - so it's a great one for the beginner to experiment with too. Also, unlike many other citrus oils, it's not phototoxic, and is generally a very safe oil to use. Grapefruit brings a lovely light and sweet 'top note' ... Read the complete review
