Disadvantages: Doesn't last long

I'm hoping the horrible cold, and sore throat season is almost over. I've gone through a whack of throat sweets. Admittedly, not just for the soothing factor, but for the taste too, some are really delicious, including these blackcurrant flavour Halls.

-- Information --
Halls Soothers come in four different flavours, blackcurrant, strawberry, cherry and peach and raspberry.

They are widely available to buy from supermarkets, chemists and the like. They will set you back around 70 pence for a pack of 10 lozenges.

-- The soothers --
The packaging of these soothers looks quite appealing, it is purple in colour indicating the blackcurrant flavour. It has the same design as all Halls soothers. The packaging contains 10 individually wrapped lozenges.

After opening the individual wrappers you are greeted with a deep purple colour hard boiled sweet. Despite the lozenge being a relief to cold symptoms, it doesn't smell medicinal in the slightest, they do infact smell like blackcurrant sweets!

When it placed in your mouth, you are instantly hit a medicinal type taste, but the blackcurrant flavour is still there, it's a nice combination, I personally love the taste. As you continue to suck on the hard boiled sweet, it gradually gets smaller and smaller, after around 5 minutes you break into the gooey centre which then immediately trickles down your throat.

I've found that these soothers do relieve a sore throat and clear my nose, the only downside is that it isn't effective for very long, after 20 minutes or so the cold type symptoms return. This means they aren't going to cure your cold just like that, but they are effective for short term relief.

They also relieve that itchy, scratchy type feeling you sometimes get with a sore throat. I must admit, when I get that feeling, I just want to rip my throat apart, but as these soothers get to work right away, they eliminate that feeling. Once the soother has gone, I never normally get that feeling back when the rest of the symptoms return which is a massive advantage of this product.

-- Overall --
I love these blackcurrant soothers, these are a personal favourite of mine from the Halls range. Of course, they aren't going to get rid of a sore throat for good, but they are a fantastic way to get a quick fix from the horrible feeling that comes with a sore throat.
