Advantages: tasty

Disadvantages: they aren't gonna cure a sore throat

I really hate being ill, I always feel so run down, depressed and as if it is the end of the world. Currently having a mild dose of the flu, (thank god its the weekend so I can stay in bed as I never have time off work) not thinking they would help at all I purchased a couple of packets of Hall Soothers to try and help to soothe my throat a little.

Soother's have been available for a couple of years but where created under a different name in America in 1990 and I think have replaced or saturated the Locketts marketplace that I always used to have as a kid. With the Hall's brandname, which was established in 1893 as being the inventor of menthol-lyptus coughdrops, Halls has been acquired by other companies many times and is know a brand name owned by Cadbury Schweppes.

Soothers come in four different flavours, those being Strawberry, Cherry, Blackcurrant and also Peach. On the packaging, it is differentiated a little by using the picture of the relevant fruit that the lozenger actually is and tailoring the colour of the soothers logo to blend in with the actual fruit picture.

Each packet has ten lozengers within it, all wrapped up in the same packaging, a small piece of greaseproof paper, or thats what it seems like with the Halls Soothers logo on it, however when trying to get each lozenger out of the packet, I dn't find that they are individually wrapped too well and find that the actual product comes out first with the wrapper to follow.

The lozenger itself does smell of the relevant flavour. It has a hard shell which when you pop into your mouth and suck it disintegrates in time, leaving the lozenger to explode into a fruit syrup centre tasting of the appropriate flavour that you are eating.

Personally I don't think that they are actually good for you, or actually do the trick, unlike Strepsils which do actually work. When you have a sore throat of feeling unwell, I think its instinct to buy products like these. They certainly haven't helped my throat at all, which I didn't expect them to do, but they sure do taste good which makes them worth the while.

Can be picked up from most places, supermarkets, petrol stations, newsagents. They are widely available and very popular, ranging from 55 - 65p depending where you are purchasing them from.

My dad always told me that for any medicine to do you good it had to taste bad! Now I wonder if that was to get me to take my medicine? LOL! Susan
