In my quest to find something that would stop my throat feeling like it was on fire I tried soothers - I can't remember the last time I had a bad throat ache and as this name suggested it would sooth it was worth a try.

Costing £0.38 for a pack of ten individually wrapped lozenges, they come in a rectangular purple packet now with the words Soothers in bold white lettering over it next to a picture of a blackcurrent lozenge on a leaf!

The ingredients include real blackcurrant juice - but only 0.5%, glucose syrup, sugar, fructose, lactic acid, citric acid, flavourings, emulsifiers,potassium and eucalyptus oil. There are 2 E numbers - E129 and E132 - So may not be best given to children of a hyperactive nature!

Not suitable for people with nut allergies as they may contain sesame seeds and traces of nuts.

The only nutritional information is that there is only a trace of fat and protein but per pack you get 165kcal and 41.1g carbohydrate which seems fairly high.

So are they any good?

They do taste really nice - very strong blackcurrant flavour, and when you get to the centre it is strong and rich and very pleasant.

It didn't remove the pain but it did sooth it for a short while - and as this is what it claims to do I can't exactly fault it.

Summary: Does exactly what it says it will do - no more and no less!
