Advantages: Taste nice

Disadvantages: Don't really work

I am a firm believer that all these sweets and throat lozenges are just one big con. I hardly ever buy them and I also have a thing against any sort of medication. I won't even take paracetamol when I have a headache.

A couple of days ago I started getting a bit of a sore throat and as the day progressed it felt like I had swollowed sandpaper. I started drinking loads of water but was awake in the night because it was sore. I wouldn't normally be bothered and Iwould ride it out but on Christmas Eve I am singing a solo at my church so I need to be well. At first I thought I would pick up a box of Strepsels as they have worked for me in the past but when I saw that they were £2.80 a box I decided to go for these which cost me 48p and a box of Sainsburys own throat lozenges.

The ones I chose were the blckcurrant flavour which comes in a purple packet with a picture of half a Soother on the front and the liquid is dripping out of it. You get ten sweets per pack and they are all individually wrapped.

When I unwrapped the first one Ididn't think it smelt particularly strong even though the packet states that they contain real blackcurrant juice. I popped it in my mouth and after a few seconds I had a real strong flavour of Blackcurrant tingling my taste buds. I sucked the hard shell for a little while and they actually taste quite nice, like sweets I suppose. Eventually I bit into it and the liquid oozed into my mouth which was very nice. Finally I chewed the whole thing and got most of it stuck between my teeth.

Did they work? I hear you ask. Well I would say they made my throat feel a little better but if you are looking for a magic cure then this isn't it. They taste nice and you'll want to eat the whole packet but my throat only felt better for a short while after eating one. Iknew this and Ican't beleive I was desperate enough to buy into this but it was worth a try. I just hope my throat clears up before Christmas Eve.

Summary: A nice sweet treat but it didn't sooth my throat.

I agree they taste nice but not convinced they actually help.

I actually think these are good but not for a 'proper' sore throat. I use them while I am teaching because I get a dry throat and lose my voice when talkin a lot.
