Advantages: Helps breathing and talking for a while
Disadvantages: Doesn't last very long
Taking my first day off from work due to sickness since starting there in March is "costing" me £50 (due to something they have running during September, that at the time I called garbage and this is proof it is) so off to write to try and earn back as much of that as possible (and if I can earn the £50 they can shove their job). With a sore throat yesterday I bought a pack of Lemsips, some Rennies (I keep getting heart burn) and some Soothers (at the time it was just a sore throat and not a fully blooded cold that I have now). So the Soothers, which come in a rather girly coloured purple wrapper contains 10 (I think, I have a half empty packet left) seemed to be a great solution at the time.
In a similar mould to Lockets and Tune, they are cough sweets/cold sweets that are designed with the idea of soothing (thus the name) sore throats. Coming in an individual wrapper inside the packet to stop them sticking together, they are hard sweets with a slight stickiness to the touch and a deep purple complexion. The sweets, like all sweets are to be taken orally and one at a time, sucked originally before revealing a liquid centre. With a strong blackcurrant taste in the mouth and a menthol based undertone that helps open up the sinus which of course helps with breathing through the nose.
The sweets claim of being made with "real Blackcurrant juice" is put out on the front of the packet though closer research shows that it's 0.5% blackcurrant concentrate (which they claim is the equivalent of 3% normal juice) that's less than almost any fruit sweets out there. Though I didn't buy them for their quality's as fruity sweets, but whether or not they could help my swollen throat and ease both breathing and speaking. It's the centre that seems to have the mission of soothing sore throats. So with the hard coating bitten through then liquid free to run down my throat, the test is whether or not I feel any better and for a few minutes after every one I do indeed feel better I can breath for a few minutes with out feeling like I've had something shoved down my neck. Sadly however the effects really do only last a few minutes and with only 10 in a packet that means less than an hour per packet of freedom.

May contain sesame seeds and a trace of nuts.
Overall at 50p a packet for what is effectively a glorified sweet with a menthol taste that despite helping people to breath through the nose just doesn't have the effect of a proper menthol spray.
Summary: Great for the 2 or 3 minutes it lasts
