Advantages: Cheap, effective, tasty, definitely help a sore throat
Disadvantages: Full of sugar unfortunately!
All week this week I have been battling with an absolute stinker of a cold. It is the particularly vile kind which makes you feel as if your head has been filled with sand and your throat has been sandpapered. Not nice at all.
I decided to venture out from my sick bed yesterday as I had a couple of meetings which I absolutely could not reschedule and therefore would have to just pull my socks up and cope with. Its absolutely years since I had actually bought throat sweets but knowing I was going to have to speak at both meetings I decided to invest in a packet so I would have them to hand.
I bought a packet of these Halls soothers in the Cherry variety and they were so amazingly effective I actually went and got another packet this morning in the peach and raspberry flavour too.
Each packet costs around 50p and contains around 10 sweets, each individually wrapped. They are slightly sticky when you take them out of the packet and have an almost immediate soothing effect on your throat once you suck on them. I cannot explain how nice it is on a horribly sore and red throat to have these flavoured juices soothing the pain.
The best bit is that after a good few minutes of sucking the lozenge seems to actually burst in your mouth and it releases a lovely thick and soothing fluid which feels like heaven to your ravaged throat area.
I think these are great value for money, each lozenge lasts a good while in your mouth (as long as you dont crunch) and does exactly what it says on the tin. I also found that having one in my mouth actually stopped me coughing as the constant sucking on the sweet kept my throat lubricated and didnt give it time to dry out and start me off.
I would not have managed to get through my meetings without these sweets I dont think. I have a feeling a coughing fit would have rendered it almost impossible. The flavours I chose are both actually really nice and the peach and raspberry in particular is very tasty.
These sweets also seem to work as a comforter of some sort and I certainly felt like I got a bit of a pyschological boost from having the packet with me when I knew I needed to function. I will most definitely be buying more of these until this cold has gone away and they will be my first port of call next time I start to feel one coming on.
Summary: Great lozenges to manage a sore throat and very comforting too.
