Advantages: Provides Temporary Relief For Your Throat
Disadvantages: None
Along with most people I have sucumbed to the cough and cold that is doing the rounds at the moment.
After having the swine flu in the summer I had hoped that I had my quota but unfortunately not.
I have to be honest and say that when I get a cough or cold I do not usually take anything and just drink plenty and keep warm and wait for it to go but as my throat was quite painful and I felt like I was trying to swallow broken glass so I picked up a packet of Halls soothers at the supermarket.
==== The Product ====
Halls soothers are a packet of sweets with a difference, they are a hard sweet like a boiled sweet and they have a liquid centre that is filled with real blackcurrant juice which sooths and coats you throat and relief that sharp pain that is associated with sore throats.
Although I have tried the blackcurrant ones they are available in other flavours.
Cherry
Strawberry
Peach and Raspberry
==== The Taste ====
I was surprised to find that they really did taste like sweets and and the taste is not too strong while you suck them and when the filling is released the taste does get stronger but is very pleasant.
===== Do They Work =====
I have to say that as soon as the inside of the sweet was released I felt that it coated my throat and took the harsh and rough feeling that I had in my throat away almost instantly
I also felt that it the effects lasted for a long time and I did not need to constantly have one after an another although as there is no medicine in them you can take them as and when you need to.
It is worth noting that is states on the product that it may contain nuts and sesame seeds.
===== Things to Help A cough And Cold ====
My Wonderful Grandma really did not like to take any kind of medicine and although the Halls soothers do not contain any she still used her own remedies.
Good old lemon on honey, my grandma swore that it had to be a fresh lemon cut up and squeezed and any honey would do but she always used a honey called Manuka honey as it has a very high antibacterial content and is known as honey gold. mix it in a mug with a little sugar and drink.
She also used to warm a teaspoon and put the honey on and then put the warm teaspoon and honey in your mouth and allow the honey to slip down and this provides a great coating for your throat.
===== Conclusion =====
I think that the Halls soothers do work well and they provide temporary relief for your throat and they are pleasant to taste and because they have no medicine in them they are safe to take.
I have to say though using the Manuka honey with its antibacterial properties will kill the infection in your throat.
===== Availability =====
Available in most newsagents, chemists and supermarkets and cost approx 0.70p
