Advantages: Gentle, soothing, smells nice
Disadvantages: None
Happinose is a nasal decongestant balm.
It is available in a tube (14g) over the counter from most Chemist's, priced at around £3.50-£4.
Happinose is used for relief of nasal congestion associated with colds and hayfever and soothes irritated skin around the nose.
It contains levomenthol (0.3% w/w) as well as geranium and eucalyptus oils with a white soft paraffin and light liquid paraffin base.
It is NOT for use by
Children under 5 years of age or
People sensitive to any of the ingredients.
Initially the end of the tube needs to be pierced by removing the lid and turning it round to use the point to pierce the foil seal.
It is suggested you blow your nose before applying happinose.
Doses are
Adults - apply up to 1cm of happinose in and around each nostril.
Children 10years or over as above but use half a cm
Children 5-9years use up to a quarter of a cm
Wash your hands after use.
You can reapply 4hourly if needed.
Happinose can also be applied to the bridge of the nose (safety- avoid your eyes), throat, chest and between the shoulders.
It states on the information leaflet that:-
If symptoms persist beyond 10-14days to seek advice from your Doctor or Pharmacist.
In case of irritation, discontinue use. Seek medical advice if you experience any other undesirable effects when using Happinose.
I was introduced to Happinose by a colleague a few yeas ago when I had a blocked nose which was sore and irritated, and have been using it whenever I've had a cold since.
I find that it does really help to prevent/soothe the soreness you can get from blowing your nose and it does also help to clear my nose. It is gentle (unlike some other decongestants I have used) and I love the smell!!
A tube does last a long time, so it is quite good value.
Summary: You should have a tube in your medicine cupboard

- 01/11/08 This is something I could probably do with, I keep getting headcolds with a blocked or runny nose, yuck! I think I will see if I can get this, I hate when the skin around my nose gets all red and itchy and all of that...
Good review :-) |
