Advantages: Stops you snoring.
Disadvantages: There aren't any to stopping snoring.
April 2001. Do you snore? Perhaps you do, perhaps you don't know if you do or not. I didn't know I did until my girlfriend moved in with me in January this year and told me so. Her question over breakfast "How was your sleep darling" became the standard precursor to her saying "You snored again and woke me up twice". I decided that this could not go on and that I would conduct some research on the web and do something about it. So, if you know what causes snoring, skip this paragraph. When you fall asleep, many of the bodily functions also effectively go to sleep or at least slow down. Heart rate slows, so does blood pressure and your muscles relax including those in your throat. The now soft palate at the back of your throat vibrates as you breathe in so causing snoring. I decided that there had to be some kind of *cure* for this.. if not then I would research what could be done. *Aha!!* I exclaimed as I stumbled across www.stopsnoring.co.uk. They have come up with a product made of natural oils and herbs that they claim "Helps Stop Snoring". It works by simply tightening the soft palate in the throat so that it won't vibrate when you sleep. It can be bought in Boots, other chemists and health food shops and comes in 2 forms: 1. Gargle. Cost £5.99 4 weeks supply. A small bottle of oil concentrate; it is one of those tiny little bottles that you get most essential oils in. Just before you go to bed and after you have brushed your teeth.. Get a glass with about 100ml of lukewarm water and they say to put 3 drops of the magic potion in it; in my experience 5 or 6 works better. Stir it. This is enough for about 6 mouthfuls and all you do is gargle each mouthful for about 30-40 seconds. It is actually very very refreshing and you can feel your mouth and throat numbing a bit but don't be put off even if it feels rather odd to start with. Tastes of sort of menthol, eucalyp
tus and others make it all quite palatable. 2. Spray. Cost £11.99 7 weeks supply. A small bottle similar to those breath freshener sprays you can buy to put in your top pocket or bag. Tilt head back and spray 3 times towards the back of the throat, swallow and repeat. I have been using a combination of both for the past 2 months and can categorically say FORGET THE SPRAY... it is useless and costs twice as much as the gargle but the manufacturer claims it lasts twice as long. Doesn't matter, I sprayed 7 and 8 lots of 3 sprays and it still didn't work. In fact I probably woke up the neighbours as well!! The gargle though is BRILLIANT. You may spend 6 or 7 minutes every night administering it but it has stopped my snoring so effectively that Rachel does now get a much better night's sleep and I would even say that our relationship has improved as well. In closing, if you or your partner snores and it disturbs your sleep, you don't have to put up with it - give the gargle a go; it produced instant results for me.
