Advantages: Works a little bit.
Disadvantages: A lot of messing about.
I am continuing my battle to defeat my snoring, but I am still not having a great deal of success. The latest treatment I have tried is a product called “Helps Stop Snoring”. This is available as both a spray and a gargle. I had read all the other opinions on this product and the spray did not seem to get very good reviews so I decided to try the gargle, which seemed to get the most approval. This is a mouth rinse made from natural essential oils, the primarily ingredient being Mentha Piperita. The treatment comes in a small bottle and this is used before going to bed each night. To use the gargle you put three drops into 100ml of lukewarm water. This is supposed to be sufficient for six mouthfuls. Each mouthful has to be gargled for 30 seconds and then spat out. The bottle is supposed to be 4 weeks supply. Obviously I do not know how effective any snoring treatment is and rely on the assessment by my wife. When I used three drops per night of the gargle she said that it made no difference at all to my snoring. When I increased it to six drops per night she said that this gargle did seem to slightly reduce the volume of the snoring, but really did not make any significant difference. I was reluctant to try any larger quantities. The gargle does not taste great, but it is not too unpleasant. I could certainly put up with it if I thought it was going to help a lot. At night I normally go to bed just as I am starting to fall asleep. With this gargle I had to put on the kettle to get some warm water and then spend a few minutes gargling. Altogether this took about ten minutes each night and when you are just falling asleep this does seem a very long and boring process. Also if the house is quiet and the rest of the family are asleep gargling does sound very loud. The oil comes in a 5ml bottle and costs about £4. As I had to double the dose to get any result at all this makes it about £2 per week, which do
es start to work out a bit dear, for not a great result. The company has a web site (http://www.stopsnoring.co.uk) where you can buy the treatment on line, although I bought it from our local Boots store. There is further information about the treatment on the web site and also details of their Snore Farm. This sounded a great idea. People who snore a lot can go along and have their sleep patterns analysed and the best treatment assessed for them. We have tried to contact the company to get to this Snore Farm but have only managed to contact an answering machine and our calls have not been returned. I assume this probably means that they have been overwhelmed with callers. Although this product did seem to work a bit the result was less than satisfactory and I really did not like all the messing about before going to bed. My search for the ultimate cure goes on.

- 01/10/01 Interesting stuff. The only way my father managed to stop snoring was to lose 2 stone!! Good luck with the remedies. Sue |

- 01/10/01 Oh, don't know what to say really as it is a bit spooky reading this after recounting how I suffer from sleep apnea.
Have you been to your doctor to see about other ways of 'stopping' your snoring? Or perhaps have you considered visiting a Chinese Pharmacy/Herbalist?
G ood opinion btw, thankyou. |
