Anusol Suppositories -24
by superness11
Anyone who has had piles will understand just how painful, frustrating and uncomfortable it can be. It is embarrassing having such a personal complaint and trying to explain what it feels like to someone who has never suffered is impossible. I occasionally suffer with them and mostly have ones that are internal. These are much easier to ... cope with than external ones but the downside is that it is harder to treat them. External piles rub on my legs when I walk, sheer agony! T
Internal piles just leave me with a painful torn feeling and an itchiness that you can not cure. Whenever I have internal piles I always use the suppository style treatments as they cure the problem from the inside.
==Price and availability==
A packet of suppositories will cost around £3.00. It is always worth having some in the cupboard just in case so I tend to always replace a packet when I have used it.
==Description==
The suppositories come wrapped in a plastic sheath. If you grab two corners of the plastic you can pop the suppository out with minimal handling. I guess the suppository is bullet shaped and made from a thick firm cream that melts in warm temperatures. So once it is inside it melts fairly quickly. The bullet is smooth at the tip but I often find with this brand that the other end is not very smooth and has quite a few ridges and broken edges. This is quite significant as when the bullet enters the anus,the anus closes round the suppository and you can feel the jagged edges which can be quite uncomfortable.
To use the suppository, get yourself in a comfortable position and slowly push it into your anus, it will then start to swallow it up and you will find that your body does the rest of the work and sucks it inside.
==Results==
The relief of the cool cream on the piles is instantaneous and I often sigh in relief as soon as the suppository has been entered. It feels really soothing due it being cold. After a few minutes it will start to melt and the antiseptic qualities start to kick in. This is wonderful and it does wonderings for curing the itchy painful feeling.
The best time to apply the treatment is after a bowl movement or you risk wasting a suppository if not. For me, my piles are more painful after a bowl movement so I prefer to use one at this time too. I apply a fresh one at night an when I wake up. Occasionally you will find some of the treatment has leaked into your underwear, so I tend to avoid wearing my favourite knickers during this time. It usually takes three or four days to heal the piles I have but it really just depends. There are other things you can do to ease the healing process such as, not pushing when going to the toilet, hot baths and wearing looser cotton underwear.
==Overall==
When I have piles I will try anything to get rid of them. These are always my first choice, once you get over the weird feeling of shoving something up your bottom but will love the relief they give. I am so grateful for this product and for that I have to give it four stars! Read the complete review |

Anusol Cream
by headsore
Apologies in advance to anyone of a nervous dispositon, but this is a review about piles and pile relief cream, and as such, I need to be descriptive, though hopefully not too graphic. Please stop now if you don't want to read any further:
I have suffered from nasty hemorrhoids now for the past seven years. I can almost trace ... it back to the day our son was born. Sitting with my other half through a long and painful labour, watching her strain and push our boy into the world, I pushed with her. I remember clearly I was suffering from IBS at that time, brought about by the stress of becoming a father for the first time, losing my beloved hamster and trying to learn how to drive all at one. It was too much for me. I still suffer from intermittent IBS and this is when my large and very painful swollen veiny piles are prone to rearing their large ugly heads.
My poor other half also suffers from piles and together we manage to console one another and have tried many and various treatments and so called remedies, some have been fairly successful but others not so good. I am in the process of considering surgery as currently they are so painful I am having a lot of difficulty in opening my bowels. I often I bleed into the toilet bowl and this can be a frightening experience the first time it happens as I convinced myself I was bowel cancer.. After many exploratory tests at my local hospital, I have been assured that it is an 'external' problem, and the condition which is commonly known as piles.
Lately my wife and I have been using a great cream called Anusol, which we each buy in a 43 g tube (though you can buy the smaller ones if you prefer) and this costs us £3.50 each. Until fairly recently I had been trying a suppository which had been recommended to me by a (good close) friend. Unfortunately this failed to work for me. During the night I suffered an embarrassing experience. I woke during the night to urinate (as I do) and I broke wind out of my anus as I strained to pee. I did not realise until the following morning after discovering what looked like a film of 'pebbledash' across our bathroom door and wall, that I had, in fact expelled the suppository out of my anus and it had peppered the wall with a fine white chalky deposit. Not nice - especially for my dear wife who had to clear it up as I was running late for work!
Both my wife and I have our own separate tubes of Anusol (for hygiene reasons) as this comes with a kind of little nozzle at the end which we endeavour to insert slightly into our respective rectums. I always like to spread extra cream on the outside of the bum hole so that it brings a kind of numbing an anesthetic relief to the piles, which hang down outside of my anus. It is difficult to guide the nozzle into my own anus, however, especially at night if I am tired. It is easier if I squat down on the bathroom floor, remove the bathroom mirror and place on the floor. Then, if I squat over the mirror and use a head torch I can just about see what I am doing and guide the nozzle in the right position. I have to say however, we have resorted, on many occasions, to helping one another out just to ensure the cream is actually going in correctly and performing one another's applications. This is much quicker and easier, and not as messy.
The cream is wonderful in that it reacts incredibly quickly in reducing the pain and swelling of the angry looking purple piles. The relief is, I can honestly say, immediate for me, though I do think it takes slightly longer for my other half as her piles are a little larger than mine and she has one or two more. This cream is soothing beyond belief and it aids me in actually just being able to do normal things again like riding my bike, sitting down and relaxing and even opening my bowels and straining without experiencing excruciating pain.
I really do rate this cream very highly. It is effective, easy to get hold of and is by far the best pain relief for piles I have ever used.
Thoroughly recommended by both me and my wife Read the complete review |

Preparation H Clear Gel - 25g
by tasmin92
Okay so Preparation H gel is actually made to be used to soothe and treat piles or that H word that means the same thing but I can't actually spell :)
I didn't buy mine for this, nor have I ever had piles to use it on although I understand that it is a very common problem. I was actually advised to purchase this by some ... professionals after I got my first tattoo done, the gel is supposed to moisturise, soothe, cool and hydrate sore and itchy skin which makes it perfect for newly tattooed skin.
I brought a 50g tube of this for £5.61, this is quite expensive but it should last you until the tattoo is fully healed, also, it is much cheaper than specialist creams or gels for tattoos. Please don't be tempted to use savlon, vasaline or any other of these cheaper gels as they can sometimes draw the colour our of the tattoo whilst it is healing leaving it dull and faded. It can be brought from pretty much any health and beauty shop or anywhere like Asda, Tesco and Morrisons so shop around and see where you can find it cheapest.
The tube comes in a small box which contains an instruction manual, obviously this isnt really much good if you are using it for the same purpose I did so I just kind of ignored it. I'm not sure on the exact list of ingrediants but I do know that it contains witch hazel and is suitable for use throughout pregnancy.
The tube is sealed with a screw top and some tin foil covering the hole whch must be peirced. You will need to squeeze quite hard to get any out as the gel is very thick although not unpleasant to touch. It is completly clear and has no smell. I always kept this in a drawer so it was at room tempreture but the tube itself kept the gel very cold.
You are supposed to wait a few hours before you remove the clingfilm from a new tattoo and about 12-24 hours before you apply anything. By the time I put it on my skin had tightened, was very itchy and very uncomfortable. It was like an instant relief, as soon as the gel touched my skin it cooled it down and stopped the itching. Also, it didn't feel aywhere near as tight and I was able to sit down comfortably again. As the tattoo is near my hip where the skin creases when you sit I had been finding this akward.
I used the gel every couple of hours but only applied a thin coating. I honestly can't sing its praises enough and it was sometimes hard not to use it too often, I had been advised against this. After a few days the skin began to scab over, I continued to use it when this happened as when the scab began to crack it was quite painful. I actually didnt stop using the gel until there was no uncomfort at all.
I was very very happy with this gel for soothing my skin and stopping the tattoo for itching, I know that this is not the purpose that it is intended for but if it works that well soothing skin on my hip then I can't see why it wouldnt be just as effective elsewhere. It also doesnt even leave marks on clothes let alone stains so you don't need to worry about using this whilst wearing your favourite top.
I would 100% recommend this for healing a tattoo as I have seen friends when they have used products such as Savlon and they have lightened in colour much quicker than mine which is a few years old and still almost as vibrant as when it was first done. I cannot recommend this for use against piles as I have not used it for that but I would say that it is worth a try as the cooling sensation you get as soon as it touches your skin is wonderful.
