When I am stuck in the back of the car trying to get some shut eye, or on the aeroplane on a long flight I never seemed to be able to get comfortable. The inflatable travel pillows that wrap around your neck are uncomfortable and neck ache is often the result if I do manage to nod off. At home I have a memory foam matress along with a memory foam pillow, and have recently began using the memory foam travel pillow from Homedics. Due to my experience with the mattress and pillow I decided to give the travel pillow a try. I have always been able to settle and get a good nights sleep in comfort with the memory foam mattress and pillow in my bedroom, so my expectations were high with the Homedics travel pillow. The clever technology of memory foam means that the foam moulds to your body's contours using the natural heat from your body. This makes for a more comfortable resting position, and instead of you moving your head to suit the pillow, the pillow does all the work for you. The travel pillow has a soft touch white cover which is machine washable which is very useful. My pillow came with a handy travel case for carrying the pillow in without it getting dirty or damp. The size of the pillow is 38cm x 28cm x 11cm so although it is travel sized it is also large enough so you needn't worry about your head not fitting onto the pillow! Overall, my experience has been positive with this product. I were only unsure about memory foam products before I boguth my mattress and bed pillow, so I knew this travel pillow from Homedics would have a positive effect on my comfort whilst travelling. Priced at an affordable £7 the memory foam pillow is ideal when you on a long flight in cattle class, or on a long car journey for the kids to use.
I suffer with a bad back through sciatica and discs problems. One of my main passions in life is to try to get myself as comfortable as possible whenever as possible.....its a hobby that costs me a fortune! I bought the Homedics Memory Foam Travel Pillow from Amazon for the sum of £18 - although it was actually dispatched from Simplyspa. I had read about the Homedics Memory Foam Travel Pillow prior to actually buying it and had found the reviews to be mostly positive - hence I opted for this design rather than for one of the numerous other products on the market. However, unfortunately, I have to admit that I have been left a little disappointed by it. I had back surgery for a prolapsed disc in May 2009 and, as a result, I still get back and neck pain when I'm sitting in one position for a long period of time, and hence plane travel can be quite painful. I purchased this pillow thinking that if I could provide support to my back and neck then it may alleviate some of the pain and residual discomfort I experience when traveling. I recently traveled to Sanf Fransisco (a 10 hour flight) and then onto Hawaii (a 6 hour flight) and then over to NYC (a 6 hour flight) - and so this provided ample opportunity to try out this travel pillow and see whether it met expectations. It didn't! The pillow is fairly small, measuring 38 cms x 28 cms x 11.5 cms - and so is rectangular in shape. To go under the head it is an okay size, but to go into the small of my back it didn't feel deep enough. The idea is that this pillow uses thermo-sensitive memory foam which reacts to changes in body heat to activate the contouring of the memory foam. In practice, I found the memory was far to squishable and didn't really provide me with very much support at all. It was better than nothing, but not much better than the free pillows they give you on longer haul flights anyway. In addition to this, because of the type of foam used, it just succeeded in making me feel increasingly hot and sticky - and this actually increased my levels of discomfort. Like I said, it did provide some support, but it was minimal. It does have a towelling cover to it which is can be removed and is washable. The fact that it is towelling means that it is absorbant of any sweat (ugh, sorry!) and that its fairly durable. I have washed it on three occasions now and it is still like new. It comes with a waterproof travel carry case - but in order to get the pillow into the travel case, you need to roll the pillow up so that it fits. It does fit easily, but you do need to roll it quite tightly and it does take a while for the curve to be removed from the pillow when you remove it from the travel case. Carrying it around is okay as the pillow is fairly light weight and when squished into the travel case its quite small and portable - but it could do with a clip on it so that you can clip it onto hand luggage. Overall, I think this pillow is okay but that it is not as good as it could be. It needs to be a little bigger and chunkier - and something needs to be done about how hot it makes you feel (this wasn't just me as my partner tried it to). I will be looking for something better, but in the meantime I will continue to use it.
I suffer with a bad back through sciatica and discs problems. One of my main passions in life is to try to get myself as comfortable as possible whenever as possible.....its a hobby that costs me a fortune! I purchased this from Slumberslumber.com for £18.00. It was quite a price for a travel pillow I though but being memory foam with a washable cover and a carry case and being from Homedics which is a brand I trust and own alot of things by I believed it was going to do me some good! Measuring 38.1cm x 27.9cm x 11.4cm it isn't huge but lets just say its bigger than the size of the average head (I hope lol). It's soft and spongy and has a white, very soft towelling cover which zips on and off it so it is washable (apart from the pillow which isn't!). What happens with this pillow is that it moulds with your body heat and cradles the neck. That doesn't mean you neck gets stuck in a vice like grip, you can move with ease, the pillow bounces back into shape and then you remould it with each movement that you make. Thats the thermo-senisitve memory it has...isn't it clever for a pillow! It really is incredibly soft and comfortable. Not only is it light and portable but thick enough to be comfortable and it comes in a black plasticy sort of travel case that has a handle and is very durable. It's a soft case, not ridgid so easy to get your pillow in and out of and it is waterproof! Only the outer case mind! This comes with a 2 year guarantee and in a nice informative box and is widely available try the site I mentioned earlier, cataloges and sites such as Amazon if interested. Great not only for travelling but camping and sometimes I even pop mine behind my back in bed to give me a little extra comfortable support. Its a lovely travelling companion and something I really wouldn't want to be without now!
