Advantages: Good quality massage, does as described

Disadvantages: Can't really think of any

I've had some quite bad back pain for over twelve months now, with the main symptoms being lower back pain and stiffness.

I've tried a few of those hand held massagers and one day when on holiday in Spain I used one of those massage chairs that you pay one Euro into and get a five minute shiatsu massage. It was absolute bliss and seemed to loosen up the muscles in my back considerably so I've been in search of something similar that won't break the bank ever since.

Having done some research and read reviews I decided to purchase the Homedics SBM-300 from amazon.co.uk as it was quite cheap at £85.45 plus delivery. Having decided to splash out and have the guaranteed next day delivery it arrived very quickly and I eagerly opened the box.

This particular model is described as a massage cushion and is able to fit to most chairs. There is the main back part - which is quite sturdy - and the seat part at the bottom. I used mine on the sofa but there are straps to enable you to use it on a computer chair which is useful for if you work in an office or have to sit at a computer all day like I do.

It is fairly simple to set up and plugs into the mains so there is no worries about batteries running out during a massage. You have a control panel which lets you choose from shiatsu massage with the option for upper, lower or full back massage as well as spot massage for if the pain in concentrated in one area. You can also have rolling massage which literally just rolls up and down your back, again with the option of upper, lower or full back massage.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I switched it on but it does give a very invigorating, firm massage right up and down your back. My model has a heat option which complements the massage nicely. It automatically switches off after fifteen minutes which is quite a good length of time and you do feel relaxed and de-stressed after using it.

I've been using this massage cushion daily and I have definitely noticed a difference in my back pain. It hasn't cured it totally but it is quite effective at easing the pain when it gets almost unbearable.

It's at the expensive end of the scale at close to £100 but I feel it's worth paying the extra for a very good quality massage at home. It's great for easing back pain but is also good for a de-stress after a tough day at work.

Summary: Worth paying extra for
