Advantages: works fast, strong

Disadvantages: not fast enough sometimes!

I always have Imodium in the medicine cabinet; a lesson I learnt after travelling and realising that it was one of life’s necessities!

What is it?
Imodium helps to control both the inconvenience and pain of (short term) diarrhoea (oh why am I writing about this subject?!).
The main active ingredient of Imodium is loperamide hydrochloride, a medicine used to
treat diarrhoea, designed to thicken stools and so to reduce diarrhoea, mmm yum. Imodium has been about for years and there are many who’ll testify to its success.
There are 2 products: Imodium (available in liquid & capsule form contains Loperamide) and Imodium Plus (chewable tablets contains Loperamide and simethicone – to reduce gas) which is stronger and works faster (beware the tablets taste a bit nasty despite the attempted minty disguise!).
I have used both the capsules and the chewable tablets, both have had the same desired effect, but I prefer the capsules!

Does it work?
Oh yes it works, it’s saved my life more than once before! For me, it has worked (on the nastiest of tummies) after the first dose and it has usually done the trick after about an hour or less. It also helps alleviate any bloated feelings you might have and generally calms your troubled tummy down! You should drink lots of water and oral rehydration fluids as well, if you can as this really helps the symptoms.
If you are unfortunate enough to suffer diarrhoea, Imodium should do the trick!

Where can I buy it?
You can buy it over the counter at most chemists and supermarkets, you can also buy it online.

Cost:
18 Imodium Capsules retail around £6.50
18 Imodium Plus Tablets retail around £7/8

Dosage
Imodium is only suitable for those 12 years or older, oral rehydration solutions are recommended for children younger than 12.
Imodium Capsules: Take two capsules to begin with and then,
if required, 1 capsule after eac
h episode of diarrhoea. Do not take more than 6
capsules in any 24 hour period.
Imodium liquid: Adults and children aged 12 and over: take two 10 ml doses to begin with and
then one 10 ml dose after each episode of diarrhoea. NEVER take more than
eight 10 ml doses in any 24 hour period.
Don’t overdose, you may end up in a worse state of constipation!

Storage:
Keep it out of reach of children and do not use after the expiry date.

Side effects:
I have never suffered any side effects or know of anyone that has, however, according to the medication, occasionally Imodium may cause side effects such as tummy cramps, feeling sick & vomiting, tiredness, drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth and skin reactions.

Warning:
Consult your GP before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have persistent symptoms or any existing bowel or stomach conditions.

Conclusion:
This is an excellent remedy for an embarrassing, uncomfortable condition; I have always found that it works! I suggest you buy a packet no, in case of future emergency!

We used it when we were in Mexico and were struck by 'Montezuma's revenge'!

My "just in case" has always been kaolin and morphine. Why they started to put the morphine in I don't know, but kaolin is nice and natural and works as well. A good op.
