Disadvantages: None at all
This week I have been feeling really run down. On top of having to have another injection into my spine for a life long condition (which kills me and sees me off to bed for a couple of days!) I have back problems of which I may have to have a disc removed sometime soon. However those problems are bad enough to cope with and as anyone knows when you have an on going health problem somehow we have ways of dealing with it and carrying on! However I'm not so brave when i get a cold/flu and really kick off then and become a nightmare patient.
So this week I have had the sniffles, a temperature, sneezing fits and a really sore dry throat of which even the roof of my mouth felt painful. My flatmate/bestmate went out and grabbed me a few things to ease that soreness and this bag of sweets was one of her chosen items.
Black and white styled plastic packet with a see through 'window' to it so you can see some of the sweets through it. On the front of the packet we are told that they are Jakemans 'Boston England' The Original and famous Throat & Chest Soothing Menthol Sweets and that they contain no artificial colours or flavours. On the back of the packet other information listed includes being told a bit about the product, ingredients and nutritional advice is given as is the best before date clearly stated the weight given (which in this case is 100g) and contact details for Jakemans are given. Inside the sweets are wrapped in see-through and white plastic wrappers where we are simply told what they are on them. Nice enough packaging and its informative enough as it all needs to be.
As soon as you open up the packet you get greeted by about 15 sweets (in the size bag I had). You also get met with a really sweet and pleasant smell of menthol which isn't too strong but most definitely there.
The sweets are black, oval, thick and hard and slightly sticky. They are hard to bite on and hurt my teeth and in my opinion best gently sucked.
They taste as menthol as they smell, are slightly warming and tingly on the tongue and very but naturally sweet. They are a strong menthol sweet the more you eat of them or the longer you suck!
Not only they taste nice and fresh I found these very helpful in aiding to fix my cold. They seem to unblock my sinuses thus making me breathe alot more easily. They moisten my mouth by coating it with menthol and they soothe a sore throat and I found because I could breath better my sore head felt alot better and my chest didn't feel so congested!
I recommend these to anyone to try at all. I like the flavour of these alot but more important to me they offer effective relief immediately and although temporary I greatly appreciate them!
Nutritional Information Per 100g:
These are available in all good chemists and supermarkets priced at about 59p a packet...mine came from Asda.
