Review of Jungle Formula Extra Strength Insect Repellent Spray 75ml

Jungle Formula Insect repellent Spray is an easy to use, pump spray designed to deter biting insects such as mosquitoes, midges and other nasties. It contains Deet and can be used on children over the age of 10 years

The Jungle Formula range has been around for many years and produces products for use both in the UK and abroad. The labelling on the spray states that it is Extra Strength for tropical use and will give up to 10 hours protection against biting insects.

==Why I bought the product==

I am particularly susceptible to insect bites and the little beasts are attracted to me like moths to a candle! I guarantee if there is a midge or mosquito worth it's salt, it will find me!
As regular readers of my reviews may recall, I live on a narrow boat part of the year and spend my time cruising the UK inland waterways. Water is of course a prime breeding location for midges, mosquitoes and other biting insects. During the summer of 2008, I was plagued by insects whilst cruising on the Shropshire Union and Llangollen canals. My legs and arms were a total mess, at one point I had upward of two dozen midge bites, all in varying degrees of maturity, from little itchy lumps to angry hive-like eruptions to scabs from the older bites. I had been using an insect repellent but it was clearly not working and in desperation I went to a chemist shop in Llangollen and spoke to the pharmacist on duty. He recommended the Jungle Formula range and I purchased several items including this spray.

==The product==

Jungle Formula Insect Repellent spray is presented in a cylindrical, pump action, plastic spray bottle, of approximately 6 inches in height. The labeling is a distinctive green, with white writing. Two silhouetted green mosquitoes either side of a red triangle containing a white mosquito complete the image. The lid is made of clear plastic and the non aerosol nozzle is of plastic too. Instructions for use and warning about the product are clearly marked on the reverse of the spray. The bottle contains 75ml of clear fluid.

Warning!!!!
Jungle Formula Insect Repellent Spray absolutely stinks, there is really no other way to describe it other than the word stink! It is quite potent and reminds me of cheap fly killer or ant powder. Luckily, as the spray dries on your skin the vile aroma fades away!
Sorry for the dire image this review must be painting, what with scabby legs and fly killer aromas, it is not very attractive reading I know!

The product has been endorsed for use by the Hospital for Tropical Diseases for travellers visiting Tropical areas with a high risk of malaria and other insect transmitted diseases..

As I purchased this product last summer I am not 100% sure of the price I paid, but a quick web search shows that it currently retails for around £6 for a 75ml spray. Jungle Formula Extra Strength Insect Repellent Spray is available in many High Street stores such as Boots, Superdrug and other chemist chains, as well as in specialist outdoor shops and online retailers such as www.amazon.co.uk.

==So, Does it Work?==

Now for the all important bit, does it work? In a word, yes. A very big, very relieved, yes it works!.
I won't say that the insects avoided me totally, but they didn't bite me, which was a blessed relief!

==Conclusion==

Jungle Formula Extra Strength Insect Repellent spray was very efficient at repelling insects. I had been driven to distraction with nasty bites and to find a product that actually helped was wonderful, especially after having used other items in this range with no effect!

I am going on an extended trip on the narrow boat at the end of this month and intend to be well stocked up with this product. Whilst I do not like the idea of smothering myself in chemicals such as Deet, but I really cannot face another summer being spoiled with insect bites!
I would recommend this product to other consumers with no hesitation.

Thank you for reading.
