Advantages: They work for me
Disadvantages: They don't work for everyone
“Kalms is a traditional herbal remedy, which helps to relieve worry, irritability and the stress and strains of everyday life. It also relieves symptoms of the menopause including worry, wakefulness, flushing and cold sweats. Kalms also helps to promote natural sleep.” www.kalmstress.com
In the lead up to my driving test in December and my A-Level modular exams in January I was getting really stressed and worried. I was so stressed that I was getting frequent migraines (at least one a week). This was stressing me out further bringing about more migraines. Usually I only get about one migraine a year so I needed to do something to help.
Several people recommended Kalms, including my driving instructor, so I thought it was worth giving them a try. I started taking 6 tablets a day (2 tablets three times a day after a meal, which is the recommended dose). At first I wasn’t sure if they were making any difference and I still had to visit the doctor about my migraines as I was still so stressed. When I told the doctor that I had been taking Kalms she didn’t look very impressed, I don’t know why but I thought it was maybe because she didn’t believe in herbal remedies. However, I didn’t let this put me off and I continued to take the recommended dose.
I started to feel a difference after taking them for about a week (everyone is different though so you may feel a difference earlier than I did). I believe these did work for me, so much so that I had to stop taking the full recommended dose because I was so relaxed I didn't seem bothered about revising for my exams. I'm not saying they work miracles but as I sometimes take a lot of motivation to get me going, these made it take even more as they relaxed me. Maybe it’s just psychological – I don’t know. Even if it is though, I found they helped. I started taking just four a day instead of six. I found this still helped me feel a bit less stressed.
I was still getting migraines but I think this was because I was still really stressed. If I had started taking these before I got so stressed I believe they would have been more beneficial. After my driving test I stopped taking them for a couple of weeks and then I started again about a week before my exams.
The tablets are quite small (I won’t swallow anything too big as I’m frightened of choking!) and are coated, which makes them easier to swallow. I don’t find they have a taste and I can swallow them easily with a glass of water. They do not leave an after taste either.
I don’t know if they will work for you, as I am aware they don't work for everybody, but I think they are worth trying - after all you don't know until you’ve tried! At the moment I am not too stressed about my A-Level exams as they are still over a month away. However, it probably won’t be long before I start taking these just to make sure that I stay calm. Afterall, prevention is better than cure (as I learned the hard way with my migraines last year)
When you get stressed you can forget things more than you would if you were calm so people perform better in exams if they do not get too stressed. I will take Kalms in the lead up to my exams to help me stay calm and achieve my full potential.
It is worth noting, however that they are not suitable if you are pregnant or under 12 years old. Consult your GP or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions or allergies or if you are breast feeding.
Kalms contain hops powder, Valerian extract & Gentian extract. Kalms are currently £6.79 for 200 tablets at Boots.com and they are three for two. I think are available from most health food shops.
Thanks for reading. I hope they work for you like they did for me
