Advantages: Kind to your nose!

Disadvantages: More expensive than many ordinary tissues.

I don't think many household have managed to avoid the latest round of cold and flu bugs. I don't think I have ever had proper flu before, but I have succumbed this year. A week of flu has now developed into a chest infection and over the last two weeks I have got through more than my fair share of tissues.I now feel well placed to write a review on these little bits of paper!

Kleenex is probably one of the best know brands of tissues. They have been a household name since 1924. As far as tissues go I don't often go for branded products, but I was fed up with tissues that only lasted one blow and left my nose feeling like I had just used sand paper on it. As I was feeling so poorly I thought I needed a little more than an ordinary tissue and opted for a box of Kleenex Balsam tissues.

~What's in the box ?~

The box contains 90, 3 ply tissues measuring 21 x 20cm. You wouldn't imagine that there would be a list of ingredients, but on this box of tissues, there is.

* Paraffinum Liquidum
* Ceresin
* Stearyl Alchol
* Isopropyl Palmitate
* Dimethicone
* Calendula Officinalis

Now I have no idea what any of these items are, but they sound sufficiently medical enough to make me feel that these tissues might improve my health. Maybe I should eat them!!

~Kleenex claims~

Kleenex claims that the protective balsam with calendula will help to soothe a sore nose and will prevent your skin from drying out. I did a little research to find out what Calendula is and found that it is a plant, namely the good old marigold! A little more searching helped me find that this common flower has some wonderful qualities that can be used medically. Calendula officinalis can be used for the treatment of skin disorders and pain, and as a bactericide, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. It is easy to see then why The Kleenex brand say that with this little jem packed into the tissues your nose will be protected.

~My Verdict~

The first thing that I notice when pull a tissue from the box is that it is beautifuly soft. It doesn't feel like a tissue, more like fabric. It feels strong too. Many tissues just tear as you pull them from the box but these don't. I blow my nose and the tissue feels silky on my skin. It is not abbrasive in any way and is definitely kind to my nose. Also the tissue is still intact. It hasn't disintegrated into a soggy heap after one blow. I need to say (sorry to those of you of a sqeemish disposition) that at the moment I am quite bunged up and have a lot of very sticky stuff to get rid of! These tissues are fantastic. I may look really rough around the eyes, but at least my nose isn't red and sore.

~Conclusion~

There is nothing worse when you have a cold, than a tissue that feels rough and only lasts one blow. Kleenex Balsam are softer and stronger than its more basic counterparts. The adeed Calendula definitely means that you nose is cared for.

Thank you Kleenex!

I bought 3 boxes for the price of 2 , for £3.99. At this price they are a similar cost to ordinary 'stores own brand' tissues. Even at full price (approx £1.98 a box) I think they are worth the extra money as they last longer. You can also buy these tissues in man size, cube boxes and also pocket packs.

Thank you for Reading!

Summary: A soft, strong tissue that protects your nose when you are feeling at your worst.
