Advantages: Soothe your poorly nose, Help ease the redness you get when your nose is sore.

Disadvantages: Cost a bit more than standard tissues

During my recent bout of the 'flu I ended up with a really sore nose. In fact, the inside of one nostril swelled up and then began to bleed. Blowing my nose should only have been attempted with the aid of an anaesthetic ~ it actually made me cry when I sneezed (all together now....aaah!)! It was beginning to get a bit ridiculous, so Alun (on one of his very frequent trips to get me medicines) bought home some Kleenex Balsam Tissues.

~~~WHAT ARE THEY?
Tissues silly! You take them out of the box and blow your nose on them! Actually they are a bit more special than your bog standard paper hankie because they contain calendula (which is obtained from the marigold plant...it's amazing what they do these days!)~ when you wipe your nose, they leave a thin film of a protective balm behind which is supposed to prevent the soreness and stop your nose going as red.
~~~HOW MUCH AND WHERE FROM?

Ours were from Boots and cost us £3.79 for a pack of two boxes. This seems to be a pretty standard price for them and I do think it was a bit cheaper to buy the twin pack. They are also available as a single pack and you can get handy pocket packs ~ I've only bought them in the twin pack option so I don't know what the others cost I'm afraid.

~~~HOW WILL I RECOGNISE THEM?
The box is rectangular and is gren, blue and yellow in colour ~ quite eye-catching and easy to spot. The Kleenex logo is in white on a dark blue background (again easy to spot) and you will know you are getting the protective tissues because it clearly says "+Balsam" on the front too. I don't think it would possible to confuse them with anything else!
~~~DO THEY WORK?

Well they did for me! I had actually left it a little bit too long before getting them and I regret it now. My nose was already pretty sore by the time I started to use them; but I could really feel the difference between these and the other

tissues I'd used before. They felt lovely and soft against my poorly nostrils and I could feel the soothing effect of the balm more or less straight away.

They did smell slightly, but this wasn't unpleasant. It did actually remind me a little bit of a delicate hand cream ~ something that is soothing and makes your skin feel soft. It wasn't too strong because it didn't irritate my nose or overwhelm me. The overall effect was nice and I began to feel a lot less sore and a lot better as a result. Even though it does leave a film behind you can't feel anything on your nose ~ there isn't any greasiness or wetness left behind....clever eh?

The calendula is really effective ~ I really didn't think that just adding a bit of balsam to a tissue would have such an impact! I really wish I had not gone for the cheaper brand at the beginning of my cold because i may have been able to avoid the sore nose altogether; or at least lessened the problem. I suppose you get what you pay for sometimes and I shouldn't have been such a cheapskate when I first started sneezing and coughing.

There is only one thing you should remember ~ the calendula that is addd means that you shouldn't use these to clean glass because of the film they leave behind. They don't tell you this on the box (which should happen), and I had to stop Alun from wiping his glasses with them, but it does tell you on the web-site if you want to confirm this.

I thoroughly and wholeheartely recommend Kleenex Balsam Tissues for anyone with a sniffle ~ they may cost more than your cheap 50p off the market paper hankies, but you will reap the benefits in the end!

These are my families 'tissue of choice' too, only everybody else around here must feel the same, as the local shop always sells out really quickly!
