Advantages: Very soft

Disadvantages: Disintegrate on use

There are some products that I won't compromise on in my weekly shopping basket and one such product is facial tissues. There's nothing worse than having to blow your nose only to find that the tissue you have is all scratchy or disintegrates on first use. My brand of choice for many years, therefore, has been Kleenex as I have found their products to be reliable.

Always soft I was intrigued when I first saw the new ultra soft tissues being advertised. How could Kleenex make their tissues any softer? What I hadn't appreciated was that Kleenex had seen fit to impregnate their tissues with a lotion in the same way as they had done with their Balsam tissues. Whilst I can see the benefit of this when you have a heavy cold it's not something I like to use on a regular basis, if only for the fact that I have a tendency to clean my glasses with a tissue and impregnated tissues are no good for this.

There's no denying though, that these tissues are very, very soft. The tissue seems to glide across your skin with ease. Unfortunately, the layers also seem to glide across each other and, no matter how I hold the tissue, the tissue just seems to come apart in my hands. This means that it becomes rather unsuitable for most tasks and particularly unsuitable if you have a cold! Snotty fingers anyone?

To their credit both the regular and man-size tissues dispense well from their cardboard boxes. I find that for pockets and daily use, the regular size is fine but if I have a cold then it's man-size all the way, particularly with these ones as one blow and the tissue is through.

It's a shame, in my mind, that Kleenex changed these tissues so much when they relaunched them. For me, they have succeeded in offering a softer product but it's at the expense of the integrity of the tissue. Now I find myself buying their regular everyday tissues that, although not as soft, do at least stay intact in use.

Summary: A soft but ultimately less useful tissue
