Advantages: versatile, calming, smells delightful
Disadvantages: none
Lavevnder is the most versatile of all the essential oils. I would recommend it very highly to anyone who is pregnant especially. I used it in the bath - just a couple of drops added to the water, make sure the bathroom door is shut so that the lovely aroma stays in the room while you have a relaxing soak. Also a couple of drops on your pillow at night can aid a good nights sleep. The aromatherapist I spoke to suggested it for pain relief during labour used with a massage oil or lotion (though can't say whether it works - my labour was too quick to try it out!) I also recommend it to 'calm' overactive children. A couple of drops in an oil burner and a quiet game of cards or a jigsaw really does the trick for my 5 year old. I guess that's becuase it's supposed to have anti-depressant properties, sure does lift my mood anyway.

- 08/07/00 one word of caution if you are pregnant use the lavender carefully (sparcely) the first time you use it as it can give some pregnant women migraines (as I found out first time around) |
