Advantages: Helps with Sleep

Disadvantages: Have to get use to wearing ear plugs and eye mask

I am a shift worker with an irregular shift pattern, which means I have great difficulty in getting into a sleep routine. It is especially difficult at this time of year with the heat and the bright sunshine streaming in the bedroom Window - despite the blackout curtain liners. There is also the noise factor with the neighbourhood kids being off during the summer holidays.
After much experimenting,(and insomnia) I find the following works for me:-

Boots foam Ear Plugs - 2 pairs in a case (costing less than £2). There are several other types, including a dearer set at £4.95 called Earplanes, which helps with ear pressure build up if you are flying. The cheaper ear plugs are probably very useful if you have another half who snores!!!

Blackout Eye Mask - I had an old Airline one, but the elastic had gone on it, and had unsuccessfully spent ages searching around everywhere for a replacement. Eventually my wife located a source - Tesco. Probably not all Tesco's will have them, our branch has an in-store Chemist, and they were with the travel goods items. They come in a set of 2 and cost £2.99. They are of course also useful for helping you to sleep on long journeys too.

The other thing I use is a few drops of Lavender Essential Oil on the pillowcase, this seems to relax me and helps me to drop off. For the heat I use the ceiling fan, which with
the ear plugs in you can't hear it whirring.

Hope these tips are useful to anyone else that finds themselves in a similar position.

Interesting op.
I get really bad pain when flying, have you tried 'Earplanes'?
