Advantages: Do the job really well and taste nice too!

Disadvantages: A bit pricey

Back in November, I had a bit of a cold that just wouldn't shift, but this side of Christmas I've picked up a cold and a cough as well, so I thought I'd go for something a bit different and hopefully a bit tastier than regular Lemsip. While I take my hat off to the remedial properties of Lemsip, the taste makes me want to gag, so hopefully this Cold and Flu version with nice fruity flavours will be nicer for me.

The drink immediately has a nice aroma when you add the hot water. The usual clinical 'lemon' smell is replaced by a fruity one which ends up being more than just a nice smell once you start drinking it. I'm not one for drinking a hot drink when it's still piping hot - I quite often need to let it cool down a bit before attempting to drink it, and the same was the case with this one. So, I had a good few minutes of taking in the nice smell of the berries before sipping it.

The drink professes to soothe as miuch as clear up coughs and colds, and I have to agree with it. All the things that go with a cold and a cough (headaches, sore throat, stuffy nose) were nearly instantly cleared up, but as with most colds, it is rare that just one of these drinks does the job first go. That's probably why you get 10 sachets in the packet, to aid you in your recovery.

In terms of price, you do pay a bit more for these. Regular Lemsip tends to be a cheaper price as it is the most common and is not technically a soother, but if you wanted to get the lemony flavour Lemsip Cold and Flu Soother as opposed to just plain old Lemsip (around £1.70 or £1.80), then it will likely cost you in the region of £3.50 for the packet. This one, the wild berry and orange flavour ones are a little more, at around the £3.70 mark, so you do pay quite a bit more. However, they soothe instantly as well as just attack your cold or flu, and this comfort may be worth the extra pennies for some of you.

I do recommend this product, but if you don't have a bad throat that is in need of soothing, then you're probably best off going for regular Lemsip, if the taste is something you can bear! Most Lemsip products are available in most supermarkets, but the larger ones and specific chemists are more likely to have a wider range.

Summary: A tasty way to get better

I think the phamacutical societies make a lot of money on fancy products, with brilliant claims, I for one find hot lemonade and a couple of paracetamol just as good and a fraction of the cost. I think a lot of doctors may agree, sorry just my opinion

I'm rather fond of that lemsip gag - it makes you feel like you're doing something!
