Lemsip Max Cold & Flu Lemon
Advantages: Eases The Symptoms of Cold And Flu
Disadvantages: It Wont Make It Go Any Faster
Hello flu, thank you for dropping in on me. Now if you could just sod off as I really don't have time to entertain you I would much appreciate it!
Well that didn't work so I went to the chemists snuffling all the way and came home cuddling my lemsip max, No really I did!
I have to be honest and say that I have only really had the flu once and it really wiped me off my feet, I couldn't even get out of bed and felt as though I had gone 10 rounds with Mike Tyson in my sleep. But I have suffered from heavy colds and I always go for my trusty lemsip and I currently have one at the moment so I am topical with my review.
Lemsip has been around as long as I can remember and when I was little I always remember the pack coming out when mum had a cold and is was always the powder in them days although you can take your lemsip in tablet and caplet form these days if you don't have the time for a hot drink or can't stand the taste.
This lemsip is the power form that comes in a box of 5 sachets you can get larger ones including 10 and 16 sachets, they are available in three versions including the original lemon, blackcurrant and a lemon and menthol one, for this review I am concentrating on the lemon.
The product claims that it will alleviate the systems associated with colds and flu including, headache, fever, blocked nose, body aches and pains and a sore throat.
When you open the box you will find the sachets inside and you just take one out and rip the top off, this is easy to do and just give the sachet a little shake just to loosen the powder and keep it at the bottom so it doesn't burst out when you rip the sachet.
The powder looks a little like sherbet and the smell is quite strong in the sachet unless of course you have a blocked nose and there is no scent at all!
Pour the sachet into a mug and fill with hot but not boiling water and stir until all the powder has dissolved. You can then sweeten to make it taste a little better and I tend to use honey as this will sweeten it but is also great for you sore throat.
I then leave it for a few minutes until it has cooled a little and is just warm rather than hot as I tend to find that this makes it easier on my throat.
It is a pleasant enough to taste and the lemon flavour in particular is quite strong so if you don't like lemon go for the blackcurrant which has a much sweeter taste to it.
I find that it is very soothing to drink and due to the honey the soothing effect on my throat is instant and the warming sensation is very welcoming if you are a shivering wreck!
Due to the paracetamol in the lemsip within 20 minutes my head usually feels clearer and my throat is less sore and feels as though it has been coated and is not as rough and sore, the same goes for the aches and pains and although I still feel rather rough it is to a much lesser degree than before taking the lemsip and I think that you really notice the difference when it starts to wear off, as you realise how much difference it actually made.
The one thing I always feel with the lemsip is that it does help to clear my nose but I think that this is down to the fact that I have had a hot drink and therefore it makes my nose run, I think that you would get the same effect with a cup of coffee or even eating a curry!
The effects of the lemsip do last quite long and I find that after about 2 and half hours the effects start to wear off and I am clock watching to find when I can have my next one. Obviously everyone is different and the effects may last for less time for some and longer for others and while I don't think that the lemsip gets rid of the flu any quicker it does certainly make it easier to bear.
