Advantages: Nice Taste, Easy Alternative to Pills, Helps Fight Flu

Disadvantages: Won't Cure You Instantly!

You start your day feeling fine, then by the end of it you feel a dulling sensation in your nasel area and something scratchy in the back of your throat. You know it's coming but you don't know when it will fully attack. I'm talking about flu, within the space of a couple of days you'll feel very tired, your legs will ache, eyes will be teary, your throat burning and of course you'll be bunged up the ying yang. There is no real cure for this condition, it's one that in it's common form can be only be combated by rest, plenty of fluids and some medication such as paracetamol. Of course there are also products on the market that can help get you feeling better a lot faster.

One of the most well known brands is Lemsip, a mix of Paracetamol, Decongestant and Vitamin C. It comes in a powder form that can be mixed with hot water to form a drink which you then sip while watching bargain hunt or that old afternoon movie on Channel 4. Taken four times a day it can help you get better and also provides a good alternative to those who don't take to swallowing pills too easy.

The product comes with 10 sachets of the stuff and costs £2.89 from the likes of Sainsbury's etc. Some might say that's expensive but I don't really think so when you compare it to the cost of most other medications on the market. Currently there are lemon and blackcurrant flavours available. I would say that the Blackcurrant option is the best to go for. It tastes so much better and doesn't seem to have that horrible paracetamol taste as you near the end of the drink. You know the kind that makes you wretch and convult as you brave the conditions and finish it.

Now adverts on TV for this kind of thing would make you believe that it will cure almost anything straightaway. Of course that never is the case, take for example the new powder from Lemsip that you can pur down your throat, the result on the advert isn't the instant re
sult you'd expect. The body doesn't work like that I'm sad to say. However taking Lemsip does help speed things along, it certainly stops the congestion pretty effectively and clears up any aches and pains. But then again it may not work for you and the only way you can know is to try the product out for yourself.

Lemsips are quite comforting, but not as comforting as a hot rum toddy!
