Advantages: Best £14.99 I have ever spent

Disadvantages: Red nose - embarrousing snotty moments!

As I am 11 weeks pregnant I am not allowed to take any drugs of any kind - so sods law the pollen season has decided to hit with a vengeance this year. Unfortunately am suffering from really bad "morning??? sickness" and of course having a runny nose, sneezing and streaming eyes in between being violently ill every time I try to eat something is really miserable.

My husband came home with the Lloyds Pharmacy Hay Fever Reliever and Ioniser - two devices which are meant to aid hay fever symptoms. The Hay Fever Reliever is normally £29.99 but is more or less on permenant 50% off promotion. The Ioniser is £13.99 but if you buy with the Hay Fever Reliever you get a further "buy one get one half price" discount so both for £21.99.

Now this seemed to be a small price to pay for relief from a permenantly runny nose and swollen eyes.

The allergy reliever is meant to provide relief from all the symptoms of hay fever, allergies and rhinitous. It is not suitable if you have a pace maker or sensitive nasal skin and children under 16 should be supervised when using it.

Here comes the science bit. This uses light therapy (both normal light and infra red light) to relieve the symptoms of allergies. THe infrared light is meant to lower the production of histamines in the same way that tablets do - but naturally.

How to use it?
Well buy a 9Volt battery - and open up the back and put it in then you are ready to go. Why you couldnt get the battery provided I do not know!

You then stick the "nodes" - one up each nostril , use the clamps at the bottom to adjust them so that they stick automatically or just hold them up there. Press the on button and off you go. Each treatment lasts 3 minutes and the device automatically switches off when it is done. You can take 3-4 treatments a day - try to leave 4-5 hours between each treatment. Wash or wipe clean the nodes after each usage.

Does it work?

The million dollar question - and with me, it seems to be a miracle cure. While the treatment is happening I feel like my nose is being tickled from the inside and for the duration of the three minutes I sneeze almost constantly and my nose runs (so I have plenty of tissues to catch the drips!)

And then - nothing - (or very little) my sneezing and streaming nose seem to stop and my eyes are also much better!

Downsides
Well apart from streaming and sneezing whilst I am being treated the device has a rather amusing side effect in that your nose glows bright red for the duration of the treatment which amuses my husband no end. At work I would suggest taking it to the toilet for some privacy!

Upsides
Relief from my hayfever - now if they could just come up with a natural cure for morning sickness I would be ready to face the world!

Summary: Works for me!
