Advantages: Effective

Disadvantages: Honey & Lemon flavour is nasty!

As I recently wrote a review for Halls Soothers, I think that it's only fair that I take a look at rival product 'Lockets', which are made by Mars. As my sore throat is now much better (thanks Soothers), I have a small stock-pile of throat lozenges left - one of which is a packet of Lockets Honey & Lemon flavour.

Lockets cost 39p for a pack of ten sweets from Tesco. The product claims to "help clear your nose & soothe your sore throat", and contain "real honey, menthol, eucalyptus and vitiamin C". Compared to Soothers, Lockets are cheaper - equivalent to 3.9p per lozenge, in comparison to Soothers 4.8p.

The Taste

If i'm going to be completely honest, I find the honey & lemon variety of Lockets to be quite disgusting - the lemon is bitter, and in combination with the menthol, the general flavour isn't pleasing. That said, the blackcurrant variety is much nicer.

Lockets contain; Sugar, glucose syrup, honey, glycerol, flavourings (lemon, Grapefruit and lime oils, lemon flavour), vitamin C, citric acid, colour (E160a), active ingredient: menthol 9.7mg, and eucalyptol 9.2mg.

In terms of their effectiveness, I would say that Lockets are just as good as Soothers - both have the liquid centre which really calms a sore throat, and the added benefit of menthol in Lockets helps open the airways.

Lockets are an effective way of easing the pain of a sore throat, and although I would recommend the blackcurrant variety any day over the honey and lemon ones, the product really does what it claims to do - Highly Recommended.

As with all throat sweets, many people forget that you can actually 'overdose' on them - although it is difficult to do. With Lockets, the packet states that adults shouldn't consume more than three packs in a 24 hour period, and children aged 3-6 should only have a maximum of one pack in the same time frame.

Summary: Relieves sore throats quickly
