Advantages: effective, good strong taste, nice textures, well priced
Disadvantages: too sweet
My youngest daughter has had a lot to cope with the last few days - not only is she sitting her A levels but she's also been quite poorly. Her symptoms were too numerous to mention but yesterday she was diagnosed with a viral infection plus tonsilitis (which, I believe is going around with a vengeance here in the north west).
When she first complained of having a sore throat I gave her the usual painkillers & advised her to drink loads of fluid thinking it was due to dehydration during the hot spell. She then developed a cough & asked for cough sweets so I bought 2 packs of Lockets Honey & Lemon which cost 79p each from our local pharmacy.
Although there are only 10 lozenges in a pack they taste quite strong & last a long time if sucked & they seemed to help her cough as well as soothe her sore throat temporarily.
She wasn't too keen on the taste & said they tasted of mint rather than honey & lemon but when I tried one they had a great taste of both honey & lemon so I'm presuming my daughter's taste buds were affected!
The lozenges are individually packed in their own wrappers which are easy enough to open but keep them fresh & prevent them from sticking together. They are a fairly deep lozenge which measure about 2.5cm x 1.5cm which is a good size for the mouth - big enough to last but not too large that they make you gag.
The outer part is hard, rather like a boiled sweet, whilst the inside is a soft liquid which is pleasant but very sweet. The taste is strong but you fell that they are doing you some good & they're not too delicious so that you're not tempted to eat them as sweets!
Full directions for use plus health advice & a comprehensive list of ingredients are clearly given on the reverse of the packet. The eucalyptus & menthol along with the honey & lemon all seem to combine well in making these pleasant to taste - the only thing I didn't like was the sweetness & the inevitable stickiness it left on the teeth.
summary
~
- effective for my irritating cough & mild sore throat.
- worked on a temporary basis for my daughter but, to be fair, she was later diagnosed as having an infection & these lozenges don't claim to be medicine.
- strong but pleasant taste.
- perfect size.
- not too expensive.
- very sweet.
Summary: well worth a try before seeing gp?
