Advantages: taste nice, work on mild sore throats

Disadvantages: dont work on very sore throats or stop infection

When I have a blocked nose, Lockets are usually the first sweets that I want to find when I am looking in the shops, they seem to be better than the rest in my opinion and normally give me some relief from a blocked, stuffy nose when I have a cold, even if it only is a temporary relief.

To take a Locket, you simply suck on one until you get to the liquid centre, then you swallow the liquid centre, they are taken much like any other cough sweet on the market. Lockets do not however get rid of throat infections, so if you have an infected throat, you should look out for other antiseptic cough sweets such as Strepsils, and if they do not work, consult a doctor.

These sweets are lemon and honey flavoured and they also have quite a strong menthol taste from them, so they aren't as sweet as other brands such as Halls Soothers, however they still taste quite nice in my opinion and are quite easy to eat.

The first thing that I noticed when I took these cough sweets was feeling of the menthol starting to work in my head, I have found that these cough sweets are brilliant for getting rid of a blocked nose and they are quite good as soothing a mild sore throat too.

Each sweet contains a very high amount of sugar (4.1g) so if you have a sugar intolerance, it is best that you do not take these sweets. Also if you take too many of these sweets, they are likely to cause an upset stomach or dizziness/feeling shaky, adults should not take more than 3 packets within one day. I have never felt dizzy or shaking with these cough sweets, but once I had 5 in about 2 hours and my stomach did feel quite unsettled, so it is best to pace them out and give it at least an hour between sweets.

You can buy lockets in most corner shops and also in chemists and in the supermarkets, they range from about 50-70p, which is a decent price in my opinion as they do seem to work and give some temporary relief when you are feeling stuffed up and miserable with the cold.

Overall I think that these are quite a good cough sweet, they work quite quickly and taste nice as well. However they do not have any antiseptic qualities for when you have a badly infected throat, so they are no use to these kinds of sore throats. If you have a mildly sore throat or a blocked nose or general cold and flu symptoms I think that these would definitely perk you up a little bit, they certainly work for me. Overall I would give these 4 out of 5 stars.

The active ingredient in Lockets is Menthol 9.7 mg, Eucalyptus 9.2 mg
