Advantages: Give instant short term relief to nasal congestion

Disadvantages: Effects don't last too long

My daughter suffers from asthma and allergies and at this time of year, always seems to have the cold. She also has problems with her sinuses and finds it extremely difficult to blow her nose or sniff!! With the result her nose constantly streams. She goes through an endless amount of paper tissues and always seems to have very sore and red looking skin around her nostrils. Having said all this she never lets it get her down and is always a very happy cheery child.

We always keep a box of tissues in every room in the house, except the bathroom where she just uses the toilet roll and in the kitchen where she just uses the kitchen roll! We also keep a box in the car.

She'd been up during the night a couple of times as she was finding it very difficult to breath, but come morning time she was her usual bright self again and promptly got ready for her ballet class. On the way to ballet we discovered that the tissues in the car had run out so I promised I would buy some more whilst she was in her class.

I popped into Semi-Chem as promised to buy some tissues and was immediately drawn to the shelf by the distinct menthol smell of Olbas wafting from a packet of tissues. These ones I just had to have.

==The Product==

The manufacturers of Lotus tissues and Olbas Oil have combined forces to create these clever little tissues. These tissues can be bought in a single pocket pack containing 9 tissues for around about 49p or a family pack containing 6 of the pocket packs costing £1.29. In brightly coloured plastic packets with the top half in green displaying the Lotus name and flower and the bottom half of the packet in a warm orange colour with the Olbas name printed on it, these tissues just ask to be bought! The tissues are white with 2 different pretty blue designs printed around the edges. When you first take one from the packet the menthol and eucalyptus aromas are quite strong. You are instructed on the packet to crush the tissue before use to release the oil capsules locked within the tissue fibres. We did this and were amazed at how strong the aroma became after crushing!! You then breath deeply through the tissue before and after blowing your nose, helping to relieve blocked sinuses. We did a test ½ an hour later crushing the tissue again to see if the oil became stronger again and it did.

==Do They Work==

Both my daughter and myself found them to be a great quick instance fix to relieve blocked nasal passages. They are soft tissues, helping to reduce the irritation to the skin around the nostril area. They do not, however, give a long-lasting answer to nasal congestion, but when you do have a cold and are using tissues constantly then these I would recommend.

One thing I would not recommend them for is a tearjerker at the cinema! My daughter found these irritated her eyes, making them sting quite a bit.

Thank you for reading.

I tend to rely on kitchen roll - hence the red nose, unattractive look at the moment!!
