Advantages: helps with sinus pain without icky yucky goo!
Disadvantages: the strong may be too overpowering for some
Everyone seems to have been ill recently. The horrible germs going around have led to one bout of a cold after another. Throughout the winter months I suffered with a cold for 90% of the time.
My other half has been poorly most of the winter as well. When I have a cold I normally spread Vicks VapoRub onto a tissue and inhale the vapour. The stuff often squirts out of the sides or wears off pretty quick.
I have asthma and with a cold this can get a lot worse. My mum returned home one day with Olbas Tissues. I had inhaled Olbas Oil in a bowl of boiling water and it always seemed to help. The concept of tissues seemed like a great one. With us all suffering in the house however they didn't last too long.
The small packet had 8 tissues in and at 52p a packet they were priced a lot higher than your average packet of tissue. The packet claimed to help with a blocked nose and had the orange 'Olbas' logo on the front. The green and orange packet was quite attractive but I doubt it would stand out on a shelf. Mum mentioned that she only noticed them when looking for a pocket pack of tissues for her handbag.
I hoped that the tissues would work as well as the oil. On opening the pack the kitchen was filled with a very strong smell of eucalyptus and menthol. It was really quite soothing. I didn't really see the need in using the tissues as tissues i.e. to blow my nose but to inhale and help the heavy pressure around my nose and cheeks. I felt so full of a cold and the inhalation of the very strong but pleasant menthol helped me greatly. My other half usually hates smelly thing and I thought he would reject the tissue but he was so impressed he went straight out and bought more.
The obvious benefits are that they can be used to relieve sinus pain and are most useful when on the go. I have a packet in my handbag for when I get an attack of the 'sneezes' or when I wake up feeling a little blocked.
The tissues are highly effective but they are not cheap and they didn't help much with the sensitive area around the nose. I still ended up looking like Rudolph and with cracked skin under the nose.
The strong smell lasts a very long time, in fact I came across the tissue today at the bottom of my bag from 4 weeks ago and was shocked to realise that the scent was still rather strong. It's nice to know that a packet will last several months in the bottom of a handbag, without the smell weakening in any way.
Summary: very useful to keep in a handbag
