Advantages: Soft, strong tissues, olbas oils helps clear blocked nose

Disadvantages: Pricey

Usually, Olbas Oil tissues are not really the sort of thing I would have purchased, and I actually got mine free when there was an offer at the Boots Advantage point to get a free pocket pack. When I got home, they were shoved in a drawer, but recently I fished them out when I ended up getting a dreaded summer cold.

These are regular paper tissues made by Lotus, which are impregnated with Olbas Oil - a product which is a mix of Dementholised Mint Oil, Eucalyptus Oil, Cajuput Oil, Menthol and Juniperberry Oil - and is usually used either neat or in an inhaler to relieve the symptoms of a cold, such as a blocked nose.

The tissues are white in colour and as tissues go, quite good quality. They're thick and soft and don't fall apart straight away as some of the cheaper brands can.

You will notice that around the edges of each tissue is a swirly pattern pressed into the tissue, which has a pale blue tinge to it. This is where the Olbas Oil vapours are held.

To use the tissues, you simply crush the tissue in your hand, which activates the Olbas Oil, and inhale the vapours from the tissue. Before doing this, the tissues do have a slight scent to them, but as soon as you start to crush them in your hand, you really can smell the strong Olbas Oil vapours.

I found that the addition of the oil to the tissues really did help my cold, and really did help me breathe more easily. I have only used Olbas Oil on its own once, and my memories of it are slightly hazy, but I seem to remember it was quite strong. The vapours from the tissue are a bit more muted, and not too overpowering, and I actually quite liked their smell.

They come in and orange and green packet, so are hardly inconspicuous, and have a resealable tab, which I found lost it's stickiness quite quickly unfortunately.

These tissues are only available in either single pocket packs or packs of six pocket packs. As mentioned, I got mine free, and I'm not sure how much Boots charge for them, but the Olbas website tells me that the RRP is 59p for a single pack, and £1.49 for a six pack, which is slightly on the pricey side.

I would definitely use these again, but not as a tissue for day to day use, only if I had a really bad cold, and I think they're too expensive to use regularly. They did work well though, and next time I'm suffering from a cold, I will definitely consider these over regular tissues.

Summary: Olbas Oil Tissues
